The Regulatory Compliance (RC) function is a Second line of defence (LOD) function, responsible for reviewing and challenging the activities of the Group's businesses (also referred to as "the First LOD"), to ensure that they effectively manage as "Risk Owners" the RC risks inherent in or arising from the conduct of their activities and for which they are responsible.

The Second LOD consists of 'Risk Stewards' who are independent of the commercial risk-taking activities undertaken by the First LOD.

The RC function is a Risk Steward for several non-financial risks in accordance with HSBC Group's risk framework.


The Opportunity:


The role supports the onshore RC advisory team covering the Commercial Banking & Global Banking and Markets (CMB & GBM) businesses, enabling these businesses to deliver sustainable growth by supporting the embedding of a robust risk management culture.

RC does this by providing advice, training, and risk stewardship to ensure the business complies with the letter and spirit of relevant regulations to deliver fair outcomes for customers.


The role can be based out of Bangalore or Hyderabad.

What you'll do:

The AVP - RC CMB and GBM is part of the RC GSC advisory team and supports the onshore RC CMB & GBM advisory team in one or more of the following areas:

Impact on the Business

  • To promote and sustain a riskmanagement culture in alignment with RC's role as the second LOD.
  • To provide advice and guidance which enables the onshore RC team to manage regulatory risk effectively, and to escalate more complex queries in a timely and seamless manner.
  • To proactively identify and support in the management of significant new or emerging risks, and their potential impact on HSBC.
  • To track the resolution of subsequent risk management actions as appropriate.
  • Defining and adopting best practice through collaborating with our key business partners to enable the highest standards.
  • Develop framework that supports and informs timely and effective business management and decision making at all levels.

Customer / Stakeholders

  • Work/liaise closely with relevant stakeholders in their respective onshore Risk and Compliance and Business teams to provide expertise and support on all RC related matters.
  • Build strong relationships, adopting a joinedup approach, to execute processes at pace and with minimum conflict.
  • Ensure that the business operates using accepted industrystandard methodologies, practices, processes, and principles.
  • Ensure the appropriate timely and relevant risk information is provided to onshore Risk and Compliance and Business teams.

Leadership and Teamwork

  • A senior team member to drive the team to fulfill stakeholders' requirements on time. A strong team player to collaborate with RC onshore teams, business partners and Global Functions areas to ensure commonality and consistency.
  • Share best practice with onshore Regulatory Compliance RC teams and other ASP countries.
  • Drive a highperformance culture through delivering standards, collaboration, and effective people interaction.
  • Agree responsibilities within formal and informal network, providing context, direction, and confidence to deliver results.
  • Maintain and develop positive and professional working relationships with business units at the Regional and Country levels.
  • Support and encourage constructive teamwork by demonstrating collaboration and matrix management in action.
  • To share insights on repeatable business queries and escalate complex queries in a timely and seamless manner.
  • Contribute to the development, implementation and maintenance of management information, analysis and reporting.

Operational Effectiveness and Control

  • Resolve any identified issues promptly and escalate concerns to management as appropriate to ensure timely awareness of any material concerns.
  • Maintain and observe all HSBC control standards and implement and observe the Group Compliance Policy.
  • Support the continuing development, implementation and improvement of the processes, capabilities, capacity, and infrastructure needed to effectively manage RC risks in a changing environment.
  • Maintain awareness of operational risk within assigned portfolio and minimise the likelihood of it occurring.
  • Develop and produce comprehensive MI, and critically review this, in order to create meaningful assessments of GSC team performance.

Data Governance:


  • Support onshore RC team with Risk & Control Assessment (RCA), Issue and Action Management and Control and Monitoring testing.
