    ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

    JOB DESCRIPTION : Mid-level PostgreSQL / MySQL Database Administrator

    CLASSIFICATION: Exempt

    JOB SUMMARY

    As a member of the Data Operations Team, the mid-level Database Administrator will be responsible for the strategic oversight and leadership in managing the PostgreSQL and MySQL database environments. They are responsible for architectural planning, leading database-related projects, and providing guidance and mentorship to other staff. Applicants should have extensive experience with complex database management, possess advanced technical skills, and demonstrate strong leadership qualities. The role requires in-depth knowledge gained from prior roles, a proven track record of successful database administration, and the ability to work well with others.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    · Work as the Database Administrator supporting the Data Operations Team

    · Responsible for ensuring availability and performance of all databases that support our systems

    · Experience building, configuration, and maintaining a clustered environment

    · Work to ensure that associated hardware resources are allocated to the databases and to ensure high resilience and performance tuning to provide 7/24/ availability

    · Manage, plan, and implement a solid disaster recovery process

    · Able to proactively monitor the database systems and ensure appropriate monitoring and notification

    · Analyze databases to optimize and tune for optimal performance

    · Able to Create/Edit SQL, triggers, stored procedures, functions

    · Responsible for database security management

    · Documentation as necessary for training, and internal/external audit requirements

    · Ensure database backups, rotation, and retention are performed according to IT policy

    · Plan, coordinate, and implement security measures to safeguard database information against accidental or unauthorized damage, modification, or disclosure, according to security policies

    · Perform other job-related duties as assigned

    REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    · Strong communication and organization skills

    · Ability to multi-task and manage time is essential

    · Ability to effectively engage and work with a variety of roles and teams

    · Strong written and oral communication skills

    · Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, specifically documentation skills

    · Ability to use critical thinking in solving a problem

    Nice to have:

    · Prior experience in benefit program administration; knowledge of Health and Welfare processes a plus

    · Solid understanding of other database query languages i.e. (SQL Server, Oracle, NoSQL, etc.)

    · Scripting experience i.e. (PowerShell, Python, Perl, Bash, etc.)

    · Experience within a major public cloud service provider such as the following:

    o Microsoft Azure

    o Amazon Web Services

    o Google Cloud Platform

    KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND/OR EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

    § Bachelor's degree preferred but not required...

    o In lieu of bachelor's degree, equivalent years of experience in computer science, engineering, certifications, or a related field

    § Overall, 7+ years' experience in related areas of work as a Database Administrator

    § 5+ years of experience in the following areas:

    o Database Design, Management, Capacity planning, & resource forecasting

    o Performance Tuning (Server and code)

    o T-SQL programming/tuning and development

    o System level metrics and ability to create custom ones

    o Automation tasks/scripts

    o Strong backup/restore and HA and failover experience

    § And, any equivalent combination of education, experience, certificates, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered
