Job Purpose


To support its growth, John Cockerill Environment, headquartered in Belgium, is opening an office in Mumbai and is hiring a Layout Designer.


The Layout Designer is an employee responsible to issue general arrangement and detailed drawings of products of the Solids & Waste Business line of John Cockerill.

He /She assures the delivery on time of products general assembly and detailed manufacturing drawings according to the milestones defined by the execution Project Teams.

He /She is particularly responsible to deliver his/her work in conformity with internal quality standards as defined in the QMS (quality management system) of the Environment Business of John Cockerill.

The Layout Designer is responsible for the delivery of the GA (general arrangements) and detailed manufacturing drawings of the plant & under the hierarchical responsibility of the Technical Project Manager based in India and the functional responsibility of the Project Engineer with the following objectives:

  • Respect of the Design Process as defined in the QMS of the Business,
  • Technical conformity of drawings to internal standards and contractual requirements,
  • Supply of a fast and reliable service to the execution teams to respect the document and equipment contractual delivery schedules of projects.

Key Responsibilities
The duties of the Layout Designer are amongst others:

  • Check the completeness of the inputs received from Project / Contractual documents.
  • Preparation of documentation mainly GA, Equipment Layout, Detailed Drawings and
  • Bill of Quantities in compliance with internal standards and contractual requirements,
  • Ensure the completion of the design with respect to the time schedule,
Support the project Team with technical data for relationship with Customers, Partners and suppliers.

  • Application of the Design Process,
  • Check the completeness of the inputs received from the Technical Project Manager and basic engineering department in order to proceed to his/her work,
  • Provide the engineers with information needed for the project progress.
  • Issue the execution documentation (mainly GA, Equipment Layout and detailed drawings) in compliance with internal standards and contractual requirements,
  • Issue the execution documentation in compliance with applicable Norms & standards,
  • Issue BOM's (bill of quantities) for raw material purchasing,
  • Issue and update the standard technical documentation,
  • Keep his competencies updated with regards to the needs of the Solids & Waste Business,
  • Be proactive in the continuous improvement and REX (return on experience) processes,
  • Ensure the completion of the design with respect to the time schedule,
  • Support the project Team with technical data for relationship with Customers, Partners and suppliers,
  • Integrate the safety aspect into its design,
  • Ensure adequate integration of the Project's Changes & Return of Experience.

Education & Experience

  • 810 years in Project Industry / Engineering Consultant OR Manufacturer of Boiler / Thermal Equipment/ Furnace with hands on experience of preparing Layout Drawings
  • Diploma or Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering or Equivalent
  • Fluent in English (strong written, verbal, and proven presentation)
  • Knowledge of plant layout software like Office Suite & engineering software tools (AutoDesk suite). Knowledge of PDMS, Solid Works, SP3D will be added advantage.

Technical skills:


  • 2D CAD knowledge (AutoCad)
  • 3D CAD knowledge (Inventor)
  • Knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel)
  • Understanding of professional environment and JC internal processes
  • Basic knowledge of our usual codes / norms and good practice rules
  • Mechanical drawings (cutting, machining, welding, assembly )
  • Bill of materials
  • Knowledge of mechanical properties of steel elements (ASTM and EN)
  • Reading of technical documentation
