Qualification :
Bsc (Nursing) / GNM
Experience : 1 to 5 Years of experience in OT is mandatory
The Responsibilities of the Staff Nurse in OT include the following:
As a Scrub Nurse:
- Responsible for operation room where she has been posted.
- Collects the requirements before starting the surgery.
- Coordinates with Circulating Nurse and technician regarding the
- Working condition of the equipment's.
- Maintains sterile field throughout the surgery.
- Maintains the counts of Instruments, Sponges, Gauzes, and Needles.
- Declares and document the same.
- Responsible for packing and sterilization.
- Counter check with the Circulating Nurse regarding the specimen/
- Patient materials used for surgery.
- Ensure that the Operation Room is cleaned and carbonized.
As a Circulating Nurse:
- Receiving the patient from ward with all necessary documents.
- Coordinate with scrub nurse to assemble the requirements.
- Coordinate with OT Technician to ensure the working condition of the equipment's.
- Assist the Scrub Nurse while laying her sterile trolley.
- Keep counts of Instruments/Sponges/Gauzes/Needles throughout the surgery.
- Responsible to declare the counts to the surgeons.
- Responsible for documenting the same.
- Stay in the OT assigned throughout the procedure.
- Help the OT Technician at the time of shifting the patient.
- Prepare patient material request for the items, which has been used for the surgery.
- Responsible for entering the specimen request in the HIS system and getting the Order No. and get the counter sign from the lab staff.
- Help the Scrub Nurse in packing.
- Supervise waste disposal and OT cleaning.
- Responsible to get the patient from the ward to the Operation Theatre.
- Keep the bed ready to receive Post Operative Patients.
- Check all suction apparatus, vacuum lines, 02 line(Central Supply)
- Check the working condition of monitors.
- Receive the patient from the theatre with case sheet, reports etc pertaining to the patient.
- Ensure that anesthesiology chart, operation notes and postoperative orders are duly written by doctors.
- Fix the monitor, mask if desired.
- Follow the postoperative orders given by the concerned doctors.
- Check for the vitals and enter them in postoperative chart.
- Check the airway.
- Enter the receiving time, shifting time, surgeon's name, surgical procedure done in the shifting book which is maintained in the recovery room.
