As a Credit Risk Underwriter (Associate) in the CCBSI Financial Institutions Group (FIG) - Operating Risk Team, you will be responsible for the credit risk management of a national portfolio of companies which operate in the following financial sectors: insurance, mortgage finance, asset management, private equity, payments, sustainable finance, exchanges, lender finance, and other financial services.

These companies are active users of traditional treasury management and trading products (ACH Debit, ACH Credit, letters of credit, corporate cards, securities and OTC derivatives trading, and intraday overdraft limits).


As the primary credit risk manager for a portfolio of FIG clients, the Underwriter works in partnership with coverage banking, treasury services, and other product partners to analyze and approve credit requests, risk grade borrowers, and negotiate collateral agreements and trading documentation.

The Underwriter is also responsible for on-going monitoring and risk management of their portfolio.


Responsibilities:


  • Risk Assessment identify and evaluate key risk factors associated with clients, products, and industry asset classes across an assigned portfolio; lead client due diligence meetings; attend client, bank and other meetings to develop a better understanding of client companies, management teams and industry sectors; and develop and recommend appropriate credit structures relative to risk assessment.
  • Credit Approval ensure all credit risk and other policies are followed, with exposures approved at appropriate level; prepare credit approval materials, present and recommend approvals; analyze and negotiate collateral and other terms and conditions as part of a deal team; review and negotiate legal documentation to ensure terms are appropriate and consistent with credit approval.


  • Portfolio Management

  • Provide a wellresearched and thoughtful risk assessment of each assigned client on an ongoing basis, including ensuring risk ratings are accurate, provide early identification and proactive management of deteriorating credits and other problem situations, work closely with Credit Services to ensure accuracy of credit system data, and lead individual project related work as requested by Senior Management.
  • To be successful this individual needs to develop a broad and deep understanding of the business, financial, viable, and industry risks faced by clients in the assigned portfolio.
  • Career progression opportunity role can lead to opportunities underwriting traditional loan relationships as a Senior Underwriter (cash flow reliant, asset reliant, M&A, debt/capital market opportunities) if desired and performance shows the necessary skills to progress into that role.

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills:


  • BA/BS degree
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, along with strong interpersonal skills to interact effectively with and build relationships clients, bankers, product partners, and senior management
  • Independently productive; able to operate at a highly effective level with mínimal daytoday managerial direction
  • Successfully operate within in a deal team dynamic
  • Strong work ethic with an ability to meet deadlines while multitasking
  • Promote a strong control environment. Excel/PowerPoint/MS Office knowledge

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills:


  • Knowledge of credit and JPMC (or similar bank) policies and procedures are a plus
