We are looking for a
Tax Adviser - Global Mobility Operations to be a part of the mobility operations team and effectively deliver, lead and manage Rio Tinto's Tax compliance programs and processes including payment of tax dues to authorities across the globe, settling TEC/ TAC debts with current and former employees, making sure the right Rio Tinto entity is picking up assignee costs/ benefits and ensuring compliance with Rio Tinto's tax equalization policy.

Reporting to the
Team Leader - Ops and Projects (GMO), this role's primary accountabilities are to:

  • Manage tax administration processes, globally.
  • Finding opportunity to improve the current tax process wherever possible both at organizations level and at vendor's end
  • Accurate payment of tax equalisation and tax allocation payments/refunds due to or from employees
  • Work with our tax services provider and technology provider to record and report on Rio Tinto employment tax liabilities
  • Partner with Accounts Payable Administrators and Payrolls globally to ensure the correct payment to tax offices globally
  • Work with Intercompany to allocate the tax payment costs and funds received from tax authorities and employees to the correct Rio Tinto entity.
  • Onboard and design tax payment process for new countries Rio Tinto enters
  • Act as a single point of contact from Rio Tinto to resolve any issued related to Compensation collection and Shadow payroll activities faced by our tax vendor partner.
  • Proactively escalate issues and solutions to the Team Leader
  • Ops & Projects (GMO) including team workload, performance, metrics, service/project delivery and higherlevel issues.
  • Work collaboratively with the other regional teams to successfully deliver upon regular BAU activities and peak periods of workload
  • Ensure processes are adhered to across regions, sharing learnings and improvement opportunities.

About you

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

  • Equivalent to Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Tax, Business Administration, CPA/Finance qualifications (desirable).
  • Knowledge of expat compensation including tax equalisation principles
  • Understanding of Expatriate Payroll, Balance Sheets and Expatriate Tax
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and manage workload of others effectively including ability to priorities tasks and deliver to deadlines.
  • Demonstrate Initiative through identifying and acting on continuous improvement opportunities
  • Knowledge of SAP is desirable.
  • Experience with Accounts Payable is desirable.
  • Effective prioritising of work
  • Dynamic, confident approach to both written and verbal communication
  • Intermediate/advanced skills in MS Suite, particularly Excel
