The United Nations General Assembly, representing 193-member countries, adopted a global development vision titled

Transforming Our World:
The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development back in September 2015. This 2030 Agenda serves as a roadmap for action focusing on people, planet, and prosperity. It outlines 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and 169 targets to drive worldwide action over the next 15 years on critical issues concerning humanity and the planet.

India pledged to these SDGs during the UN Summit in September 2015, and the SDGs officially took effect on January 1, 2016.

The Indian Government has actively integrated the SDGs into its operations since early 2016.

NITI Aayog, the National Institution for Transforming India, has been tasked with coordinating SDG efforts with ministries and states, showcasing a comprehensive government approach.

The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) oversees the national SDG monitoring framework.

The UNDP India Country Programme Document (CPD), signed with the Government of India (GoI), aims for transformative change and impactful development at scale.

In alignment with this, UNDP is actively supporting multiple state governments in embedding SDGs within their schemes and programs as part of a comprehensive UN system-wide SDG rollout for visioning and planning in India.

In acknowledgment of India's dedication to the 2030 Agenda, Haryana has also set ambitious targets to achieve the SDGs within the state and has already drafted its SDG Vision 2030 document.

To realize the set targets in SDG Vision 2030, the Government of Haryana has partnered with UNDP to establish the SDG Coordination Centre (SDGCC) under the umbrella of Swarna Jayanti Haryana Institute of Fiscal Management (SJHIFM) as a component of the Finance and Planning Department.

UNDP has formed a Project Management Unit (PMU) and collaborates closely with relevant government departments, technical agencies, UN agencies, civil society organizations, and academic institutions to drive the state government's efforts in rolling out the SDGs.
