Job Title:
Data Governance Expert

We are seeking a motivated and experienced individual to join our team as a Data Governance Expert. In this role, you will play a crucial role in creating, maintaining, and enforcing data governance policies and practices.

As a part of the Data & Analytics Centre of Excellence, you will contribute to the firm's Digital Transformation agenda and the execution of our Digital Operating Model.

This position is vital to ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and security of the organization's data assets.

The Data Governance Expert will manage compliance with data protection regulations such as GDPR, client-specific requirements, and other industry-specific regulations.

Additionally, they will take ownership of centrally managed taxonomies and serve as the primary point of contact for Compliance, the Chief Operating Officer (COO), and Legal teams regarding data assets.


Responsibilities:


  • Develop, implement, and continually enhance data governance policies and procedures, encompassing data quality, data classification, data access, data retention, and data security.
  • Act as the key point of contact and coordinator for adopting golden source taxonomies, driving alignment across disparate stakeholders and business needs.
  • Take ownership of centrally managed data taxonomies. Establish, maintain, and ensure consistency in data classification systems, categories, and terminology to enhance data discoverability and usability.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for Compliance, the COO, and Legal teams regarding data governance matters.
  • Provide regular updates, reports, and recommendations to these stakeholders, fostering transparency and collaboration.
  • Oversee and maintain comprehensive data inventories and analytics inventories.
  • Ensure that inventories are up to date, accurate, and reflect the organization's evolving data and analytics assets.
  • Implement robust data controls to safeguard data integrity, security, and privacy.
  • Regularly monitor and assess the effectiveness of these controls, adjusting as necessary to meet evolving threats and vulnerabilities.
  • Ensure that the organization's data management practices align with all relevant data protection regulations, including GDPR.
  • Stay current with evolving data privacy laws and adapt policies, procedures, and data handling practices accordingly.
  • Implement data quality assessment procedures to identify and rectify data anomalies, inaccuracies, and inconsistencies.
  • Collaborate with relevant teams to improve data quality across the organization.
  • Champion the adoption and continuous improvement of best data management practices across the organization.
  • Develop and deliver workshops and informational sessions to educate teams and stakeholders about data management best practices, fostering a dataaware culture.
  • Implement mechanisms to monitor adherence to data management best practices and report regularly to leadership on progress and areas for improvement.
  • Mentoring and coaching colleagues from across the organisation to foster data governance best practice.

Qualifications:


  • Extensive experience in data governance, data management or related roles.
  • A track record of problem solving, critical thinking, strategic thinking, logical reasoning and solutioning.
  • Excellent knowledge of data taxonomies, classification systems, and data governance best practices.
  • Strong analytical and problemsolving skills, with the ability to address complex datarelated challenges.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact with stakeholders at various levels.
  • Outstanding leadership skills, with the capacity to lead crossfunctional teams and work collaboratively.
  • Familiarity with data management tools and software.
  • Experience of efficient Data Inventory management.
  • An awareness of industry best practices and an ability to incorporate emerging trends in data governance to enhance organizational data practices.
  • Understanding of digital transformation processes and principles.
  • Data governance certification (e.g., Certified Data Management Professional, CDMP) is a plus.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field, such as Data Management, Information Systems, or a related discipline.
  • Experience in Financial Services or in an FS data provider is a plus.
  • 8+ years of experience is preferable.
