  • The Compliance function is a Second line of defence (LOD) function, responsible for reviewing and challenging the activities of the Group's businesses (also referred to as "the First LOD") to ensure that they effectively manage as "Risk Owners" the Regulatory and Sanction risks[1] inherent in or arising from the conduct of their activities and for which they are responsible. The Second LOD consists of 'Risk Stewards' who are independent of the commercial risktaking activities undertaken by the First LOD. The Compliance function is a Risk Steward for several nonfinancial risks in accordance with HSBC Group's risk framework.
  • The role will involve regular interaction with stakeholders in first and second line of defence.

The Opportunity:


The role supports the onshore Financial Crime (FC) team enabling the business to deliver sustainable growth by supporting the embedding of a robust risk management culture.

Financial Crime (FC) does this by providing advice, training, and risk stewardship to ensure the business complies with the letter and spirit of relevant regulations to deliver fair outcomes for customers.


What you'll do
The Financial Crime (FC) GSC Advisory team is a crucial part of FC strategy, and, as a member of that team, this GSC role will support the various onshore country and regional business FC in one or more of the following areas;


Advisory support:


  • Require strong partnership with their respective onshore business and functional teams, interface with Financial Crime teams and has responsibility to assist onshore Financial Crime (FC) team to provide policy advice related to business products, services and clients.
  • Support and coordinate with respective onshore Financial Crime (FC)teams to ensure compliance with all relevant external financial crime requirements and internal codes and policies and good market practice, while ensuring Global Standards.
  • Provide timely and reliable financial crime advice to assist onshore business and functional Financial Crime (FC) teams to effectively manage financial crime risk.
  • Manage multiple enquiries from different departments at any one time, and ability to deliver under considerable deadline pressure.

Data Governance:


  • Responsible Extract MIs and coordinate with the stakeholders to prepare regular reporting.
  • Support onshore Financial Crime (FC) with Risk & Control Assessment, Issue and Action Management, Control and Monitoring testing.
  • Provide continuous monitoring oversight initial assessment on sample by RS on CMA
  • Review with the stakeholders on inconsistent input or overdue issues
  • Respond to queries from regional and global teams regarding risks and issues.

Functional management:


  • End to end ownership for submission of Financial Crime (FC) papers and reports for governance forums (such as coordinate with business for their inputs on CRF paper, follow up with business on progress of incidents, financial crime implementation progress, etc)
  • Directly coordinate with business/ CCO team for Financial Crime (FC) report
  • Followup and update of progress of items within Financial Crime (FC) training plan, assist with any preparatory work for training deck/ content for trainings conducted by Financial Crime (FC)
  • Trigger initial management for any Financial Crime (FC) requests from region/ audit/ reviews, including internal and external event
  • Follow up and engage business on progress of remedial actions and update progress in IRIS
  • Initial preparatory work and check against point of sale/ disclosure document checklist (product material review)
  • Stay at the forefront of Financial Crime (FC) changes to ensure proactive communication with business teams.
  • Handling of licensing and administrative enquiries and validation.
  • Develop jointly with onshore Financial Crime (FC) team on the compliance projects, as well as the respective implementation control.
  • Provide guidance to junior team members. Frequently communicate with senior stakeholders in the lines of business and global function teams. Be responsible for the overall team's performance level.
