The Indian Cancer Society (ICS) is seeking to recruit an Editorial Assistant to Indian Journal of Cancer (IJC) based in Head Office in Mumbai, India ideally beginning as soon as possible or at a mutual agreed date.


Working with the IJC Editorial Office and reporting to the Editor and Executive Editor, will coordinate with the writing of manuscript and reviews from inception to final publication in the journal.

The IJC is published in English and it is significant that the applicant is able to write, review and edit scientific text in English to a high level.


The role also involves the supportive to the Executive Editor in the day-to-day running of the Editorial Office, and providing support to the Editor-in-Chief and other Editorial Board Members on the targets of the journal.


Core Responsibilities

  • Proofreading editing and checking punctuation and grammar of all the accepted manuscripts
  • Developing network system with reviewers
  • Corresponding with the authors and reviewers (referees).
  • Coordinating between the publisher, editors, and the organization.
  • Scrutinizing manuscripts for all ethical and styling criteria, before the manuscript is made online.
  • Communication with author from inception to final publication of manuscript
  • Ensuring the timely production of issues, by assisting in compiling table of content, ensuring editorials are written on time, liaising with editors and sending copies to the publishers.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Administrative support to the editors of IJC
  • Day to day operation of the journals online database
  • Processing correspondence to and from the editors
  • Maintaining adequate mailing list, files and records
  • Preparation of IJC contents for presentation, budget, annual report, and writeups

Other Responsibilities

  • Provide all necessary assistance to the Mumbai Cancer Registry, the Ethics Committee and the Medical-Education Programme activities of the ICS.

Person specification


We are looking for a highly motivated person with a willingness to learn, an excellent command over the English language and an interest in healthcare / publishing.

A large part of the role will focus on administration and organizing articles submitted for publication. While experience in this field would be an advantage it is not essential.


Essential knowledge, skills and abilities

  • High standard of communication including written, verbal, listening skills
  • Capacity to proofread scientific articles
  • Well organised and able to work on own initiative
  • Ability to liaise with authors and other senior health professionals with tact, diplomacy and confidence
  • Excellent standard of IT skills (Ms-Office)
  • Ability to manage a varied workload, prioritising and meeting deadlines
  • Ability to work accurately with excellent attention to detail

Education and experience

  • Should have educated degree equivalent to BSc/MSc
  • Coordination with authors and editors.
  • Experience in healthcare writing/ publishing would be preferable but not essential.
  • An interest in scientific content editing and healthcare

Language skills

  • Fluent English Communication with excellent grammar knowledge and writing

Desirable

  • Publication of two to three research articles.
  • Work experience in a similar role like writing, proofreading and technical / language editing of scientific literature
  • Familiarity with medical and scientific terminology
  • Familiarity with academic publishing processes
  • Familiarity with and an interest in oncology and healthcare issues
  • Experience of working in a scientific or educational organisation/ with the publication house or for a not for profit organisation.

Working Pattern

  • Strictly work from Office. Work from Home is not applicable.

Salary :
Market Standard Rates. Negotiable.


Salary:
Up to ₹35,000.00 per month
