JULY 1995:    Position: Senior project engineer Instruments

Project:  Ethylene project - Gandhar task force

Worked as lead Senior Engineer for Ethylene project Instrumentation. Reviewed the technological transfer documents of licenser M/s Stone & Webster -Instrumentation volumes. Reviewed and helped EIL in preparation of P & ID’s of plant. Reviewed the material requisitions prepared by EIL for various instrumentation items. Carried out the detailed DCS & PLC evaluation. Undergoing various MR-Review, Technical Evaluation and Procurement activities.

Phase-I:  Gandhar Petrochemicals complex.

Also, worked in Phase-I plants for various procurements, detailed engineering of OSBL Plant, Jetty and Bulk procurement. Worked during erection and commissioning of VCM plant having TDC- 3000 DCS System.

Phase-II:

1. Position: Lead engineer instrumentation, Project   : Ethylene project

Worked as lead engineer of Ethylene project. Entire activities related to project procurement of instrumentation involved following activities:

(1) Technical evaluation:

Reviewed and commented all the material requisitions of EIL. Evaluated various offers of vendors and various other related activities.

(2) Procurement:

At IPCL end carried out all the purchase activities. These activities include technical commenting on MR, evaluation technical offers of vendors, preparing technical queries to be taken up with vendors & EIL. All of the above-mentioned activities were handled single handedly composing of altogether 25 different cases of Ethylene project - Instrumentation.

(3) Detailed engineering:

Technical meetings / DCS / PLC engineering / drawings review: Participated in various technical meetings with vendors and consultant M/s EIL New Delhi. Carried out detailed engineering work of DCS package. Review of Software design manual, hardware design manual, General assembly drawings of various panels, interfacing with DCS. Carried out detailed engineering of complete analyzer ABB package comprising of 56 different Gas chromatographs.

(4) Inspection / factory acceptance tests:

Ethylene project - FAT - Yokogawa DCS / August PLC & other Instruments. Lead responsible engineer for Factory acceptance test of ethylene plant DCS with 120 panels @ 5500 tags for control shutdown system. Checking & Inspection for various bought out items, various interfaces, hardware & software tests were carried out for the entire system.

 (5) Site activities / field instrumentation / DCS installation and loop checking / package vendor panels:

Field instrumentation progress achieved @ 100% by overall coordinating as lead senior engineer. Handled various site contractors, coordinating with EIL site engineers overcoming various site problems, installation finalization, modification in installations, implementing various changes as per new requirement / operating philosophy / package vendor requirement etc. DCS installations, power on and system completion is achieved.

(6) Milestones:

 All of above milestones were achieved without any short fall of any bulk material, instruments, instruments piping, lack of any engineering input etc.

1. B) Position: Lead engineer instrumentation    Project:  Bulk - procurement.

Worked as lead engineer of Bulk -procurement instrumentation phase-II. This included various bulk instrument items procurement for Gas Cracker, EO-EG and IOP plants of GPC phase-II. All of the above-mentioned activities were handled single handedly comprising of altogether 30 different cases of instrumentation Bulk.

     DECEMBER 1998:   Position: Deputy Project manager instrumentation

                                      Project   :  Ethylene project

Holding responsibility of entire instrument related activities of Gas Cracker Project including field instrumentation, DCS hardware system, software, package interface package unit installation and commissioning. Responsibility shall include other plants instrumentation of OSBL- ethylene storage, C2C3 plant, pipelines for feedstock etc. which are forming part of Gas Cracker unit. I have got rich experience of Ethylene Plant from conceptual stage to commissioning and have come across various startups & commissioning related problems, their solutions which lead to successful commissioning of Ethylene Plant.

To provide, with full responsibility and accountability, a professional technical service to the Corporation for Oil & Gas Processing Major Projects in all areas of Instrumentation & Control Engineering during Feasibility Studies; Front End Engineering Design; and Detailed Design in EPIC Execution stage, ensuring that designs are optimal, safe, cost effective and in compliance with the latest Codes, Shell DEP’s, International Standards, National and Corporate requirements and procedures.

Plays an important role and functions as a part of the Project Task Force (PTF), formed with a specific objective of successful Project Implementation, consisting of discipline engineers, project engineers and construction supervisors. Provides expert technical support to the Project in the field of Instrumentation & Control Systems Engineering design, selection & application, trouble shooting plant operations & performance evaluations and ensures that the design requirements and the performance meets the of project objectives. Liaises with Project Engineers, other Discipline Engineers and End Users to develop cost effective, safe and fit-for-purpose design solutions meeting corporate requirements. Contributes toward updating Discipline Engineering Codes, Standards, Specifications and Philosophies.

             for QP’s category –II Combined cooling water project.

(1) Review & approval of all engineering documents related to Instrumentation & control part including DCS, PLC,   

     Analyzers, F&G & field instrumentation etc.  Worked over 2000 documents generated for review, comments &     
     approval cycle.

(2) Worked as Commissioning coordinator for entire project to supply cooling water to end users. Met with all projects

     milestones for safe startup & commissioning of all systems & subsystems. Worked over approval of 200 dossiers

     generated for startup & commissioning for @ 30 systems & 120 subsystems.

        Job involved working with Petrofac, NGL 1, 2 & 3 Operations for its startup & commissioning of various systems like ABB DCS, Honeywell F&G, August ESD, bailey infi90 and various other package unit PLC systems like Siemens, Allen Bradley etc. Job involves checking & verifications of control system configuration with respect to control narratives, Cause & effect diagrams, configuration system uploads & downloads during startup & running conditions, various coordination, clearances and permissive activities with operations etc.

Position: Senior Project Engineer – Engineering Skill pool - Major Projects.

Primary responsibilities:

To provide, with full responsibility and accountability, a professional technical service to the corporation for LNG Process, Storage & loading & utilities plants inhouse O&M related Major projects, in all areas of Instrumentation & Control Engineering. Ensuring that technical service recommendations / designs are optimal, safe, cost effective and in compliance with the latest Shell DEP Engineering standards, guidelines, specifications & procedures, OLNG policies, procedures & practices and International Standards requirements and practices.

To provide, with full responsibility and accountability, a professional technical service to the Oman LNG with task is to support / train Omani Instrument technicians & Engineer trainees and providing on job training by participating in maintenance task along with them. Also train them in fundamentals of instrumentation & control systems. Creating course materials, writing assessment materials, acting as an internal verifier, supporting groups of candidates as a course tutor and taking responsibility for a course team. Conducting theoretical (classroom) and practical (workshop) training as well as ''Live Plant'' on job training. Other administration functions normally associated with works of this nature.

Primary responsibilities:

To provide, with full responsibility and accountability, a professional technical service to the corporation for  RLOC - Ethylene & utilities plants inhouse O&M related Major projects, in all areas of Instrumentation & Control. . Ensuring that technical service recommendations / designs are optimal, safe, cost effective and in compliance with the Chevron Engineering standards, QCHEM guidelines, specifications, procedures and practices.

Job includes new design, Upgrades, improvement and troubleshooting of plants instrumentation and control systems. Trouble­shooting of plant process control and instrumentation problems to determine causes and recommend options for eliminating such problems. Play a critical role in ensuring the integrity of all instrumentation equipment in the RLOC facility.

Participate in the Capital / Expense / Direct Purchases Projects Review, shutdown jobs planning, resource planning, maintenance execution plan, Department Quality/Safety Audits and quality assurance plans. Also in Incident Investigations, Process Safety Review, Hazard Review, etc.

Preparing Estimates and basic scope of work for the proposals. Preparing Justifications and setting basic guidelines for the new proposals in conjunction with other engineers & departments. Updating the Technical Documentation, datasheets and various other Instrument & control system documentation as per relevant department Procedures. Participated in Department Improvement Project and other quality improvement initiatives. Review and approve changes in instrumentation systems during project implementation.

                Major 5 years Turnaround – Actively participated for work scope development & execution strategy for 

compressor control systems, Control valves, MOVs, various field instruments etc. During shutdown, effectively handled breakdowns, Troubleshooting, Inspection of problematic areas, evaluating various options, subsequently guiding and implementing correct technical solutions for various Instruments & systems.
