  1. Sr. Programme Manager, Orphans in Need, Organisation, November 2020–December 2023

As a senior programme manager in an integrated social development project, especially one focused on livelihoods, I steer the strategic plan of the organisation in alignment with its mission, vision, and values. I oversee day-to-day operations to ensure efficiency, productivity, and quality standards for livelihood initiatives. Leading a cross-functional team, I cultivate a culture of collaboration and innovation, implementing performance measurement systems for goal monitoring in livelihood projects. I optimise resource allocation, streamline processes for cost savings, and establish robust relationships with external stakeholders within the livelihood sector. Additionally, I develop contingency plans to mitigate operational disruptions, ensuring smooth execution of livelihood initiatives.

  • Empowering Lives: The Multifaceted Role of a Senior Programme Manager: My role as a senior programme manager is much more than just a job; it's a mission to create lasting positive change in the lives of vulnerable communities, with a particular focus on empowering women entrepreneurs, widows, and orphans. This multifaceted responsibility demands dedication, strategic thinking, and a passion for driving impactful initiatives.
  • Building Skills, Shaping Futures: At the heart of my responsibilities lies the meticulous planning and execution of training and capacity-building programs. I don't just design the content; I ensure it reaches its target audience in their local languages, maximising accessibility and fostering a true learning environment. By aligning these initiatives with established plans and calendars, I help participants translate acquired skills into tangible advancements, propelling them forward on their entrepreneurial journeys.
  • Mobilising and Engaging the Community: I actively partner with state coordinators to engage and mobilise the identified beneficiaries. This means providing strategic guidance to maximise participation in training programmes while simultaneously equipping cluster coordinators with the tools and knowledge to effectively implement project activities within their communities.
  • Planning, Reporting, and Measuring Impact: In close collaboration with state project managers, I play a crucial role in developing monthly training plans and crafting comprehensive progress reports. This involves designing tests and feedback mechanisms to accurately assess learning progress and the internalisation of training topics among participants.
  • Data as a Tool for Empowerment: Data collection is not just a task; it's a powerful tool for capacity building. I work diligently to equip cluster coordinators with the skills to utilise app-based tools for data collection, both for establishing baselines and ongoing outcome monitoring. Through training, guidance, and oversight, I ensure the effective implementation of these systems, ultimately leading to data-driven decision-making.
  • Ensuring Accuracy and Accountability: Data accuracy and reliability are paramount. I actively verify the baseline database of beneficiaries within each cluster, leaving no room for discrepancies. Additionally, I support cluster coordinators in systematically collecting feedback and monitoring project activities, allowing for continuous refinement and optimisation of programmes.
  • Tracking Progress, Evaluating Impact: Participating in outcome tracking and performance assessment processes is another key aspect of my role. I assist in tracking participant progress, mapping training outcomes, assessing the adoption of best practices, and evaluating performance against established indicators. This continuous evaluation, informed by weekly and monthly review meetings, allows for dynamic adjustments, ensuring we stay on track to achieve our goals.
  • Beyond the Numbers: Administrative Excellence: But my work extends beyond measurable outcomes. I am also responsible for the smooth administrative operation of the project, managing office functions, compiling timesheets and logbooks, overseeing assets, and consolidating project-related bills and vouchers. This ensures efficient and transparent project management at both the field and administrative levels.
  • Amplifying Impact Through Communication: Communication and media engagement play a vital role in raising awareness and amplifying the project's impact. I craft compelling case stories and testimonials, engaging with local media platforms to showcase the positive changes the project is bringing to the community.
  • Building Partnerships for Sustainability: Recognising the power of collaboration, I actively identify and engage with local stakeholders, including microfinance institutions, business associations, and regulatory agencies. These partnerships play a crucial role in facilitating access to essential services for participants, contributing significantly to the long-term success and sustainability of the project.

By fulfilling these diverse responsibilities, I am privileged to be a part of something bigger than myself. I am not just managing projects; I am contributing to the empowerment of individuals, families, and communities, paving the way for a brighter future.

My tenure at the International Youth Centre, Delhi, further honed my skills in partnership-building and programme management, enriching my understanding of effecting change on a large scale. This experience has complemented my expertise, equipping me to tackle new challenges effectively.

  • Expertise in Livelihood Initiative Management :Building upon this enriched understanding, my expertise in livelihood initiative management encompasses a comprehensive approach to fostering sustainable livelihoods across India. At its core lies the Livelihoods India Initiative (LII) and its associated sub-initiatives, where I have been deeply involved in every aspect of implementation and management.
  • Collaborative Implementation:A cornerstone of my approach has been collaborative implementation. These programmes are conducted in collaboration with esteemed FPO federations, NGOs, CBOs, and other institutions. They go beyond traditional training sessions, focusing on empowering participants with practical skills and knowledge that directly contribute to rural development and livelihood enhancement.
  • Accessibility and Reach:Ensuring accessibility and reach is a priority in all my endeavours. I believe that impactful interventions should extend to every corner of the country, including remote and marginalised communities. By extending training programmes to district, block, and village levels across India, I ensure that no community is left behind. This inclusive approach fosters equitable development outcomes and empowers individuals at the grassroots level.
  • Quality improvement and collaboration:Quality improvement and collaboration are central to my work ethos. I recognise that impactful outcomes are only possible when programmes are delivered with excellence. Therefore, I collaborate closely with stakeholders to ensure that training sessions are not just informative but transformative. By fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement, we elevate the quality of programme delivery and maximise its impact on the ground.
  • Resource Optimisation:Efficient resource utilisation is critical for sustainable development. I advocate for resource optimisation and integration across various programme budget heads, ensuring that resources are allocated strategically to maximise impact. By streamlining resource allocation processes and preventing duplication of efforts, we ensure that every rupee invested yields maximum returns in terms of livelihood improvement and community development.
  1. Capacity Building and Advocacy:Capacity building and advocacy are integral components of my approach. I firmly believe in the power of education and skill development to drive positive change. Therefore, I advocate for the inclusion of rural development-related training in induction curricula for various services, thereby ensuring the availability of a skilled workforce equipped to drive rural development forward.
