Sourav Bhowmick

I am a research professional with exposure to organic synthesis. 13 years of R&D experience with the synthesis, isolation, characterization, and safe manipulation of air / moisture sensitive chemicals, synthesis of bioactive small molecules, inorganic synthesis, organometallic synthesis, supramolecular self-assembly and development of ionic liquids as well as electrolytes. I have 2 years of CRO based industrial experience in R&D and Scale-up with heterocyclic containing organic drug molecules for biomedical application. Expertise in process optimization of the synthetic condition for the organic synthesis of highly conjugated heterocyclic molecules via exploration of the effects of specific protective groups. Team player with proven ability to collaborate and work on multi-disciplinary projects. 

My research in the past thirteen years (including two and half yrs premier research and development-based Company) have focused on Organic and Organometallic chemistry, beginning with synthesis of highly conjugated heterocyclic molecules but with a current primary focus on synthesis of organic ionic liquids based on heterocyclic tectons.

My current research area in ionic liquids based company is to development of fluorine free organic ionic liquids based on heterocyclic containing molecules. 

During my postdoctoral tenure at Luleå University of Technology, Luleå, Sweden, I was working in the development of new classes of different heterocyclic-based ionic liquids (ILs) and electrolytes having oligoether-based phosphate anions. 

During my postdoctoral position, my research area is also to develop conjugated helicene based new chiral Organic and Organometallic (Pt & Pd based) building blocks via multistep reactions and their application in self-assembly of chiral two and three-dimensional supramolecular architectures. The chiral three-dimensional structures were confirmed by multinuclear NMR (including DOSY) spectroscopy, mass spectrometry analysis and single crystal XRD.

During my doctoral work, I have developed organic/organometallic complexes and as well as discrete supramolecular architectures via multistep synthesis protocol which are very use full in biomedical study. 

Apart from the project described in my thesis work, I was also involved in various other projects based on porphyrin and triptycene derivative, which involved knowledge of organic chemistry for synthesis of various molecules based on these molecular motifs.

I have also four and half yrs experience in different premier research and development-based companies (Chemgen Pharma International Pvt Ltd and TCG Lifesciences Chembiotek in India). The research area was to develop new drug molecules. Worked on optimization of the synthetic condition for the organic synthesis of molecules via exploration of the effects of specific protective groups. I have experience in multistep organic synthesis. Also, I have experience in large-scale organic reactions. I am expert in the areas of synthetic methodology and reaction optimization. I also have a lot of experience to carry out the air/moisture sensitive reactions using glove box and Schlenk technique. During the company, I was involved in more than twenty projects.

I am also expert in the synthesis of small molecules based on organic and organometallic complex, their purification and characterization by multinuclear NMR (including 2-D, DOSY), FT-IR, Raman, UV-Vis, Fluorescent, TGA, DSC, CD, CV spectroscopy, Mass spectrometry analysis, Isothermal Titration Calorimetry (ITC) as well.

I have completed my Ph.D in 2018.
