Education / Training
About Yasir Khan:
I am a passionate researcher and educator with nearly a decade of experience in immunology, bone biology, parasitology and translational biomedical research. My journey has been driven by curiosity, from exploring the therapeutic potential of helminth-derived biomolecules in autoimmune disorders during my Ph.D., to leading postdoctoral projects on inflammation and bone biology at CSIR-CDRI.
As an Assistant Professor at Aligarh Muslim University, I enjoy guiding students, designing courses, and mentoring the next generation of scientists while pursuing research that bridges the lab and real world applications. My work, published in high impact journals and recognized in media such as The Hindu and Science Chronicles, reflects my commitment to scientific rigor, innovation, and societal relevance.
I thrive on challenges, believe in continuous learning, and am motivated by the idea that science can transform lives. Collaborative, curious, and driven, I aim to contribute to cutting edge research while inspiring students to explore, question, and innovate.
Experience
I am currently working as an Assistant Professor in the Section of Parasitology at the Department of Zoology, Aligarh Muslim University, with nearly 9 years of combined experience in teaching and research. My academic and research focus spans parasitology, immunology, helminth immunomodulation, bone biology, and autoimmune disorders, integrating molecular, cellular, and experimental approaches.
In my teaching role, I design and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate courses, mentor students, and supervise research projects, fostering analytical and experimental skills through interactive and inquiry-based learning. I have successfully guided M.Sc. dissertations and contributed to curriculum development and departmental committees. In research, I have led DST-SERB funded projects and produced 25 publications, including work in high-impact journals and a patent. My postdoctoral and doctoral work has focused on helminth-derived biomolecules for immunomodulation and translational applications in inflammatory and bone disorders. My research has been featured in The Hindu, Science Chronicles, and Science Reporter, reflecting its societal relevance.
I actively participate in academic governance, collaborate in interdisciplinary projects, and aim to continue advancing knowledge in biological sciences, biomedicine, and biotechnology while mentoring the next generation of scientists.
Education
During my Ph.D. titled “Immunomodulatory and therapeutic effect of Fasciola gigantica and Gigantocotyle explanatum derived somatic products with emphasis on Collagen Induced Arthritis (CIA) in Wistar rats,” I explored the immunomodulatory potential of helminth-derived molecules in autoimmune inflammation. Using somatic extracts of F. gigantica and G. explanatum, I demonstrated significant reduction of joint inflammation and pathology in the CIA model. The study provided experimental support to the “hygiene hypothesis” and highlighted helminth biomolecules as promising candidates for autoimmune therapy. I gained expertise in immunological assays, protein characterization, histopathology, and animal experimentation, forming a strong foundation for my later postdoctoral research on helminth immunomodulators.
