Global Legal plays an important role in protecting the Group's reputation by helping to future-proof the organisation through robust legal risk and issue advisory.

Responsible for providing comprehensive legal advice to senior management and all global businesses and functions, the team offers a diverse range of legal skills, jurisdictional experience and practice specialisms across all countries and territories in which our businesses operate.

We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as a
Managing Associate General Counsel Wealth and Personal Banking

Role purpose

  • To provide legal advice, guidance and support to (a) Global private banking (b) Top tier and Premier propositions in India (c) PWS proposition (d) wealth and related initiatives (e) retail mortgage business (f) credit cards, personal loans (g) portfolio management services (h) distribution of asset management and insurance products, to ensure that the Group's exposure to legal and reputational risk is managed;
  • To coordinate and communicate policies, procedures and controls to ensure that the Group's exposure to legal risk in the jobholder's allocated business/area of expertise is effectively managed.
  • To act as a member of the wider Global Legal leadership team, contributing on global issues and leadership actions
  • To be the accountable lawyer to the executives of the area on all material legal issues that the business faces
  • To support business teams in dealing with concerned regulator for varied product portfolio and act as central support for business/ function teams

Principal Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • Provide counsel on a variety of legal matters, or in a specialist area, including matters that may be complex or have potential for some impact.
  • To be considered to be a trusted adviser to the business by ensuring that commercially sensitive, pragmatic and practical legal support and advice is provided in a costeffective manner
  • Provide support and guidance to the business groups and global functions and the legal team supporting the said business with regard to legal risks arising in jobholder's area of expertise
  • Employ legal policies to ensure that the Group's exposure to global legal risks is managed appropriately within jobholder's areas of expertise
  • Set policies and procedures for the relevant area of coverage to ensure that Legal' s role in the second line of defense can be executed

Leadership & Teamwork

  • Maintain and develop positive and professional working relationships with all team members within INM LGA, and business departments for which the jobholder is responsible.
  • If the structure is such, lead, manage, review, guide and support junior lawyers and/or support staff that report to the jobholder.
  • Participate effectively as part of the Legal Team in India.
  • Participate in the coordination and promotion of initiatives that result in the sharing of legal knowledge and best practices across the Regional / Global Legal Function.
  • As a member of the senior leadership team, contribute towards driving key agenda like regional D&I initiatives, initiatives at a country level etc

Others

  • Provide prompt, commercial, practical and sometimes complex and or specialized legal advice to the business groups and global functions.
  • Be proactive in the provision of legal support and in advising the business promptly of material legal developments and their implications.
  • Ensure senior legal management is fully briefed on major issues arising in relevant business area and major legislative changes in area of expertise.
  • Recommend selection of panel law firms and other appropriate external parties.
  • Advise relevant Senior Management on nonstandard legal and reputational risks

Requirements


Education and Relevant Experience

  • Qualified Lawyer with years experience in legal domain
  • Proven track record with significant knowledge and experience of retail banking, securities law concepts, data privacy laws in India and a working knowledge of the laws in the major jurisdictions in which HSBC operates
  • Secretarial experience and Compliance experience an advantage, but not essential
  • Good knowledge of the HSBC Group corporate structures, its business and personnel and a clear understa
