Indian Cook (Assistant to Head Chef)
Overview:
As an Indian Cook (Assistant to Head Chef) at our restaurant, you will play a vital role in supporting the Head Chef in the smooth and efficient operation of the kitchen.
Your responsibilities will primarily involve assisting the Head Chef in food preparation, cooking, and ensuring that all orders are executed accurately and in a timely manner.
Your attention to detail, culinary skills, and ability to work collaboratively will contribute to maintaining the high standards of quality and service that our restaurant is known for.
Key Responsibilities:

Food Preparation and Cooking:
- Assist the Head Chef in preparing ingredients for cooking, including cleaning, cutting, and marinating meats and vegetables according to recipes and portion sizes.
- Follow recipes and cooking techniques provided by the Head Chef to ensure consistency in flavor and presentation.
- Cook a variety of Indian dishes, including curries, tandoori items, biryanis, and appetizers, under the guidance of the Head Chef.
- Monitor cooking times and temperatures to ensure that all dishes are prepared to perfection.
Order Management:
- Read Kitchen Order Tickets (KOTs) accurately and prioritize orders based on timing and customer preferences.
- Communicate effectively with the Head Chef to understand the order requirements and any special requests from customers.
- Assist in organizing and coordinating the flow of orders to ensure timely delivery to the dining area.
- Maintain a clean and organized workstation, including proper storage of ingredients and utensils.
Quality Control:
- Conduct quality checks on ingredients and prepared dishes to ensure freshness, flavor, and adherence to standards.
- Alert the Head Chef to any issues or discrepancies in food quality or preparation.
- Follow food safety and sanitation procedures at all times to maintain a hygienic kitchen environment.
Team Collaboration:
- Work closely with other kitchen staff to coordinate food preparation and service during busy periods.
- Support the Head Chef in training and mentoring junior kitchen staff, providing guidance on cooking techniques and food safety practices.
- Communicate effectively with servers and other restaurant staff to ensure smooth coordination between the kitchen and frontofhouse operations.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience working as a cook or assistant cook in an Indian restaurant or kitchen.
- Solid understanding of Indian culinary techniques, spices, and flavors.
- Ability to follow instructions and work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask in a fastpaced environment.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of food quality and presentation.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.
- Capacity to lift and carry heavy pots, pans, and other kitchen equipment.
- Stamina to handle the physical demands of a busy restaurant kitchen.
