Rockstar India is on the lookout for talented Character Artists who possess a passion for creating creatures to the very highest standard.

This is a full-time permanent position based out of Rockstar's unique game development studio in Bangalore.


WHAT WE DO

  • We design, create and populate the world with the people and creatures that bring the story and play to life, for both our storydriven and online game worlds.
  • We work with a broad range of digital tools for sculpting, modelling and texture painting, with fundamental basis in observational art creation and an explicit attention to detail.
  • We use other technical tools for cloth simulations, photogrammetry and physically based shader pipelines to help us create believable characters.
  • You'll join a global team setting high standards across all of our projects, who have an exacting production focus and an obsession for getting the minutiae right.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Works within Character
  • Animal art asset production for our global titles.
  • Works with Art Direction and Senior Artists to achieve task creative and production goals whilst working under own initiative.
  • Work with the Character and Technical Art teams to create balanced, pragmatic and timely solutions to all related technical and aesthetic issues.
  • As an animal artist you will be creating highquality, photorealistic, anatomically accurate animal and creature assets from sculpt through to ingame topology, shaders and fur groom, utilising the full animal and creature pipeline and implementing characters into game engine. You will be working closely with other departments involved in the animal and creature workflow, working together to explore opportunities to innovate, improve and streamline the workflow.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 2+ years of experience in 3D Character, Creature or Animal art production.
  • A comprehensive modelling and texturing portfolio showing 3D character, creature or animal art to a very high standard, with specific ability in the representation of realistic anatomy.

SKILLS

  • Extensive experience using 3DStudio Max for 3D modelling and Photoshop for texturing.
  • Exceptional sculpting ability in ZBrush.
  • A full understanding of all current generation production workflows as they pertain to character art asset production including an understanding of PBR/Lighting pipelines and shader tools.
  • A keen understanding of Human and Animal anatomy; form, structure and silhouette in respect of economical and appropriate modelling for game target assets and polycounts.
  • Has a detailobsessed eye for creating and manipulating texture maps and surface patterns, and excellent understanding of the value of UV space.
  • Positive, solutionoriented individual with a sense of humour and passion for making great game art in a team setting.
  • Ability to work with bespoke engine toolsets, defined asset workflows, and contribute to overall character department goals and working practices.
  • Selfmotivated and flexible, with excellent communication skills.
  • Demonstrate exceptional digital sculpting skills and understanding of both human and creature anatomy; as they relate explicitly to specific realworld references and individual concepts, mood boards and directed styling cues.
  • Consistent delivery of high quality art: onspec and ontime.
  • A team player, very open to accepting and sharing constructive feedback and suggestions.
  • Eager to learn new tools and adopt new workflows, to achieve desired quality.

PLUSES

  • Three or more years of development experience, ideally having shipped PS4/XBox One console titles as a character artist.
  • An appreciation for research and a keen desire to learn.
  • Strong problemsolving skills. Ability to work in a selfdirected manner and to make timely, wellthought out decisions.
  • Great interpersonal skills. Must be able to work closely in a team setting and with other dependent departments.
  • Experience creating full hair grooms using Houdini.
