    Job Description: Homeroom Teacher ( PYP)

    Location: Bandra

    Reporting Relationship: Primary Head / Coordinator

    Core Purpose

    The core purpose of the homeroom teacher role is to enable students to learn effectively and to provide support for the academic and pastoral needs of the students. The teacher should always support the aims and values of the school.

    General Responsibilities

    • Abide by school decisions and policies
    • Model and promote the IB learner profile
    • Understand and live the school's mission
    • Contribute positively to staff morale
    • Work as a team player
    • Create and maintain a safe and positive working environment and relationship with all colleagues
    • Maintain professional working relationships with colleagues, line managers, and administrators
    • Maintain professional relationships with students, parents, and staff
    • Take part in all training provided by the school, both internal and external
    • Be prepared to report back about training and/or provide in-service to colleagues
    • Actively participate in Appraisal Procedures
    • Represent the school by being a good role model
    • Ensure a physically and emotionally safe environment for students through positive framing, kind communication with students and adults, and predictable, consistent routines
    • Promote independence and employ strategies to recognise and reward achievement of self- reliance
    • Attend staff meetings and participate in group committee work as required
    • Provide relevant information about student or parental concerns or conflicts to the Head of Primary/ relevant persons
    • To maintain confidentiality of privileged information about students, faculty members, and administration - Coordinate appropriate and ongoing displays of student work
    • Use the IB guidelines for PYP.

    Teacher Effectiveness: Teaching & Learning

    The teacher should:

    • Contribute to the development of curriculum and production of units/schemes of work
    • Become familiar with the curriculum guidelines, and work towards their successful implementation Demonstrate an understanding of inquiry and give students choices to show their understanding
    • Decide and explain clear learning objectives, and set appropriate assignments with an adequate time allocation
    • Present material in a clear, organized fashion
    • Stimulate interest in the subject matter
    • Set work at the appropriate level and encourage high student performance, consistent with ability
    • Use a variety of methods and available teaching aids, aiming to meet the needs of the individual and the group
    • Encourage creative and critical thinking and expression of ideas
    • Provide feedback that is designed to motivate the students
    • Evaluate and record student progress
    • Contact parents through written reports and other formal and informal means, as required
    • Plan activities to broaden the experience of the learner, as appropriate
    • Plan Units of Inquiry and lessons by following IB curriculum framework collaboratively with the PYP Head & Specialist teachers
    • Write and implement learning objectives that are challenging and measurable
    • Monitor, assess and report on learners' work and progress
    • Demonstrate and pursue excellence in teaching and best practices in education
