Introduction:


As a Solution Architect at Barclay's, you will be working on the Smartpay Gateway team, alongside other architects, business and engineering teams and in partnership with stakeholders from central Barclay's security, technology and infrastructure organisations.

You will be responsible for designing modern, secure and cost-effective technology solutions to meet business needs, in line with Group IT Strategies and Architectures.

This is a varied role where you will work at all levels within an enterprise to fulfil its key objectives:
create and own technology roadmap, define milestones, produce high
- and low-level designs and guide technology delivery.

What will you be doing?

Solutions Development

  • Work iteratively with business and technology stakeholders to design modern, costeffective technology solutions to solve business problems
  • Create quality architecture artefacts (prototypes, designs, diagrams, whitepapers) to support stakeholder approvals and enable engineering delivery.
  • Ensure proposed solutions are aligned to Barclay's strategies, architectural patterns and policies.
  • Work with Barclay's Technology Sourcing team to advise on supplier and cost options and to ensure that the solution requirements are correctly articulated in RFIs, RFPs, PoCs and product evaluations.
  • Ensure that delivered outcomes are consistent with the approved solution design and that designs are properly adjusted and managed in response to significant change requests.
  • Translate technical concepts between software engineering, delivery management and service management so they are understood by all.
Advice and Guidance

  • Provide clear, commerciallyinformed technical guidance and rationale to business stakeholders on technology choices and solutions.
  • Provide constructive challenge and support to peers and other colleagues.
  • Seek input and knowledge from others.
  • Support planning and road mapping activities so that interdependencies are understood.
  • Maintain and share expertise on relevant protocols, regulations, standards and bestpractices
Strategy Development

  • Recommend, communicate and promote the technology strategy required to meet the business vision.
  • Create, refine and critically evaluate patterns, standards, policies, roadmaps and business proposals.
  • Work with CTO to develop a robust IT Strategy for the relevant business area.
  • Identify problems that should be solved at enterprise level and recommend solutions that can be used across the organization.
  • Maintain a strong awareness of new and emerging technologies, frameworks, patterns, wider industry trends and best practices.
  • Build and foster relationships with suppliers, partners and relevant industry bodies.

What we're looking for:

  • Software development experience using C, C++, Python, Java, JavaScript, and opensource libraries
  • Experience in embedded software/system development
  • Software and solution design experience
  • Experience of creating architectural design artefacts using UML, Visio, etc.
  • API development and integration experience using RAML, SOAP, RESTful, XML, JSON
  • Knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases
  • Experience with source code management, packaging and build tools
  • Experience working in an Agile environment
  • Knowledge of automated delivery pipelines including CI/CT/CD
  • Knowledge of the EMVCo ICC and Contactless Specifications for Payment Systems
  • Awareness of the mobile development languages and frameworks
  • Awareness of test automation platforms, frameworks and tools
  • Awareness of the PCI P2PE, PCI PIN, PCI DSS and PA DSS requirements
  • Appreciation of infrastructure patterns, networking and virtualisation

Skills that will help you in the role:
