The job involves

Strategy and Thought Leadership
Develop and communicate a compelling vision and roadmap to drive positive change in five districts.


Collaborating with researchers, including modellers, data scientists, ecologists, economists and other social scientists to identify state of the art research, lay out possible future pathways and implement roadmaps for change.

Demonstrate innovative thinking in addressing challenges through new ideas and partners.

Lead the design, planning and execution of projects aimed at transforming agricultural systems in the developing world.


Identify key areas of focus and prioritise research efforts based on market needs, sustainability and potential impact on farmers and communities.


Team Leadership


Develop a long-term talent acquisition strategy, establish clear goals, objectives and key results (OKRs) for team members and regularly monitor progress to ensure timely and high-quality outcomes.

Provide strong leadership to a diverse team of innovators, fostering collaboration, motivation, and professional development.


Foster a culture of innovation within the team, encouraging creative thinking, experimentation and the adoption of emerging technologies and methodologies.


Mentor and guide an existing team of young professionals to achieve programmatic and professional success and personal development as thought leaders in the sector.


Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement


Build and maintain strong partnerships and collaborations with international organisations, research institutions, governments, NGOs, and other relevant stakeholders in the agricultural sector.

Identify and build a mentoring/advisory panel for WELL Labs' Rural Futures.


Actively engage with local farming communities in the developing world, understanding their needs, challenges, and aspirations, and integrating their perspectives into the team's research and innovation initiatives.


Represent the organisation at conferences, seminars, and other forums to promote its research findings and thought leadership in agricultural systems transformation.


Funding and Resource Management
Identify and secure funding opportunities through grants, partnerships, and sponsorships to support the team's research and innovation projects.

Manage the team's budget effectively, ensuring optimal allocation of resources and cost-effective utilisation of funds.


Monitor and report on the financial and operational performance of the team, providing regular updates to senior management and stakeholders.


Preferred qualifications
An advanced degree in agricultural management, agronomy, agri-business or related field.

A strong academic background and deep understanding of agricultural systems, practices, and challenges faced by farmers in low
- and middle-income countries.


Demonstrated analytical and project management skills, with the ability to design and execute research initiatives, manage budgets and deliver results within defined timelines.


Excellent leadership and team-building abilities, with a demonstrated capacity to inspire and motivate multidisciplinary teams and diverse stakeholders towards a common vision.

Demonstrated ability to secure funding through grants, partnerships or other means and effectively manage financial resources.

Familiarity with emerging technologies, data analytics and digital solutions relevant to agricultural systems transformation would be an asset.

Ability to adapt to and work in unstructured situations with diverse stakeholders.

Excellent quantitative and/or qualitative skills.

Excellent written and oral skills.

Ability to converse in South Indian languages, preferably Kannada


Preferred experience
At least 10 years' experience in leading innovation teams, preferably in the agriculture sector in low
- and middle-income countries.

Experience with government relations.

Experience with fundraising and/or grant writing.

Experience of creating strategic roadmaps.

Experience of building and leading teams.


Salary:
From ₹2,000,000.00 per year
