It is designed to support the best entrepreneurs by providing them with a global platform to showcase their initiatives and develop market-fit products.


In this role, you are to support deals team in carrying out commercial and financial analysis of various investment opportunities for Shell Ventures and E4 Startup Hub.

You report to the General Manager of E4 Startup Hub and indirectly report to our Finance Managers and Country Controller/Deputy Controller.


What's the role?
As Finance Advisor for Ventures, you will be accountable for Shell Ventures, E4 Startup Hub, and Downstream business.


For Shell Ventures, you are to analyse the incoming pitches from start-ups, and provide a high-level view whether the technology is new to the market, what are the competitive solutions, how well capitalised are closest peer companies.


Hence, you are expected to:

  • Work with Capital IQ and Thompson One database
  • Assist business lead in conducting high level analysis of the market maturity
  • For the opportunities which have passed initial investment committee approval:
  • Carry out market analysis, identify listed peers
  • Conduct Financial Modelling of the future business performance, building or validating existing management business plan
  • Prepare valuation model and conducting associated valuation analysis, running DCF/Comparable Companies valuation/Comparable transactions valuation
  • Conduct unit economics analysis and validation
  • Conduct Financial and commercial Due diligence
  • Assist deal team in preparing investment committee slide pack
  • Log in deal flow in SalesForce
  • Assist deals team with events planning, i.e., collate list of startups, conduct analysis, and identify the startups of interest


For E4 Startup Hub and Downstream business, you play as the face of Finance to the business and functional lines.


As such, your accountabilities are as follows:
- own the delivery of the full range of Finance capability required in Finance functional activities and in independent business decision support. You ensure there is a proper functioning control framework and high-quality performance management system in place.

  • Deliver the full suite of Finance support (including tax, treasury, accounting, and structuring) autonomously and coordinate the involvement of Centers of Excellence (CoEs) above preagreed thresholds.
  • Maintain a robust Business Control Framework for investments and divestments and ensure value and risks are properly understood, reflected, and managed in decision making
  • Work directly with the business leaders, representing Finance with the business or functional lines and play the independent role in decision making effectively.
  • Leverage the combined capability of the Finance organisation to act as one integrated team with FO staff who provide most of the analysis and content for meetings.
  • Intervene where other parts of Finance are not delivering to support business outcomes, to ensure the problem is solved and leaving ownership where it should sit.
  • Provide commercial Finance support to business opportunities, challenges, business models and strategy development.
  • Lead the Downstream Investment (DI) Filing activities for all the E4 portfolio startups
  • Work with E4 Deal Lead on E4 portfolio tool that can provide real time information on various investments and divestments by the business and current value of such investments.
  • Support Deal team in Financial due diligence as part of the E4 Track selection
  • Work closely with E4 team in ensuring recordkeeping for portfolio startups including updated valuation reports, share certificates, SHA closure
  • Provide monthly updates on E4 budget
  • Work closely with E4 Deal Lead on defining & executing an SOP for Portfolio exits
  • Support in assessing startup business plans and valuation during the Dela phase working closely with the Deal team
  • Ensure timely transfer of E4 investment to startups (USD 20,000) and maintain transaction records
  • Provide support for Country Chair budgeting process and other Country Chair business initiatives
  • Provide required support during internal and external audits

What we need from you

  • Graduate of Chartered Accountancy or Master's in Business Administration with at least 6 7 years prior experience in corporate finance/deal advisory/investment banking/equity research/private equity
  • Relevant industry qualification such is desirable but not essential
  • Experience of working on multiple projects simu
