Roles & Responsibilities


As the Chief Metallurgist in the Aero Castings & Metals department, the individual will play a pivotal role in ensuring the quality and integrity of metallurgical processes and products.

The responsibilities will encompass overseeing metallurgical testing, analyzing reports, identifying process abnormalities, and proposing solutions to enhance mechanical and chemical properties.

The Chief Metallurgist will need to possess expertise in handling metallurgical testing equipment, conducting specimen preparation, and interpreting material test certificate reports on various alloys, including nickel and titanium.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the operation and maintenance of metallurgical testing equipment, including digital microscopes, radiography devices, and chemical analysis tools using wet/spark methods.
  • Handson involvement in preparing specimens for metallurgical analysis, ensuring accuracy and precision in testing procedures.
  • Interpret and analyze metallurgical reports, identifying key findings, trends, and areas for improvement.
  • Monitor manufacturing processes to detect any abnormalities or deviations, particularly in casting and metalworking procedures.
  • Develop and implement solutions to address mechanical and chemical issues, optimizing material properties and enhancing product quality.
  • Proficiently read and interpret material test certificate reports related to Restriction of Hazardous Substances (ROHS), Substances of Concern (SOCs), and International Material Data System (IMDS) compliance.
  • Lead the development and optimization of metallurgical processes for aero casting manufacturing, ensuring efficiency, quality, and costeffectiveness.
  • Provide strategic direction and leadership to the metallurgy team, fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Establish and maintain rigorous quality control measures for metallurgical processes and products, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards and customer specifications.
  • Conduct thorough root cause analysis of metallurgical failures, identifying corrective actions and implementing preventive measures to mitigate future risks.
  • Stay updated on latest advancements in metallurgical technologies and materials science, leading research initiatives to drive innovation and competitive advantage.
  • Manage relationships with material suppliers, conducting regular audits and evaluations to ensure compliance with quality and performance standards.
  • Provide expert technical guidance and support to production teams, troubleshooting metallurgical issues and optimizing processes for improved efficiency and product quality.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory requirements, industry standards, and certifications related to metallurgical processes and materials.
  • Develop and manage budgets for the metallurgy function, identifying opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements without compromising quality or safety.
  • Overall supervision of material testing and failure investigation work related to metallic materials.
  • Collaborating with the production department to manufacture castings and raw materials according to customer specifications.
  • Aiding the Sales and New Business Development team in the preparation of RFP/RFQ, cost estimation, and conducting commercial negotiations for special alloys and materials.
  • Development of codes, manuals, and standards of testing procedures for material and
components.

  • Directs creation and periodically reviews all instructions and procedures pertaining to Metallurgy Lab and production processing operations involved in all experimental work in the plant dedicated to new projects.
  • Utilize statistical tools & techniques for preventive actions to reach the goal of zero defects in any process of casting development.
  • Ensure maintenance of records as per NADCAP, AS 9100 and ISO 9001 norms.
  • Ensure safe work environment and culture of continuous improvement (Kaizen) & 5S in the Lab within the working area.

Education and Certifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in metallurgical engineering or Materials Engineering, or a related field.
  • Master's degree in metallurgical engineering or Materials Engineering is preferred.

Experience:

years of experience in metallurgical manufacturing, preferably in casting/forging industry.

  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Indepth knowledge of advanced materials, alloys, and metallurgical processes.
  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to lead crossfunctional teams.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulations related to metallurgical processes and materials (e.g., ASTM, ASME, NADCAP).
  • Exceptional communication and collaboration skil
