Amazon is shaping the future of Advertising and our team Comet, is trailblazing on that front. We are seeking a passionate engineer who can help build an exciting new advertising product for Amazon.

Contextual Advertising is an exciting new frontier for the advertising industry, with the deprecation of critical identifiers used by advertising such as cookies.

We are building an industry leading solution to this interesting problem and disruptive opportunity.


Advertising at Amazon is a fast-growing multi-billion dollar business that spans across desktop, mobile and connected devices; encompasses ads on Amazon and a vast network of hundreds of thousands of third party publishers globally.

Comet, Amazon Ads' contextual signal service, powers ad programs across Amazon by providing contextual signals from 3P offsite and 1P properties beyond the Amazon Store, leveraging a combination of home grown and 3P vendor solutions.

The team owns extraction and generation of a wide range of contextual signals using the latest in generative AI and engineering.

Comet also sources contextual signals directly from Amazon owned publishers (IMDb) and 3P vendors.

To do all this ,the Comet team builds large-scale real-time transactional solutions, batch and stream processing systems, internet scale crawling solutions and storage infrastructure.

We process bid requests in the orders of tens of billions per day with our real-time, batch and stream processing systems.

We are not tied to one technology. Instead, we use what is best suited for the purpose.

All of our systems tend to be loosely coupled, communicating using synchronous and asynchronous messaging, leading to a classic distributed processing architecture.

All our systems need to also implement complex machine learning and optimisation algorithms at scale.

Our team is creating key infrastructure to enable Amazon's build out of contextual solutions for our customers.

We are looking for a senior software development engineer to work on this new initiative that involves building highly available, efficient and low latency internet scale infrastructure including web-scale crawler, contextual processing and classification systems, data storage and vending solutions that will be used across multiple contextual advertising use cases.

As an SDE3, you will be responsible for designing, developing and evolving the architecture of these systems, collaborating with the team for software development lifecycle activities and mentoring other engineers.

You will also be responsible for fostering a culture of engineering excellence towards delivering cutting-edge solutions that materially improve customer experience

Key job responsibilities
As a Senior Software Development Engineer (SDE 3) in Comet, you will:

  • Influence strategy and roadmap through your technical and non-technical insight
  • Work with a team of engineers and product managers to understand and refine the scope of incoming projects, and to ensure deliverables meet a high quality bar
  • Actively experiment and prototype with novel technologies that improve the customer experience or solve business needs
  • Mentor junior team members in career growth and assist in task management and Agile planning
  • Organize and participate in collaborative Q&A sessions, workshops, presentations to share your technical knowhow with the rest of the team
  • You drive adoption of engineering best practices on our team
  • You actively coach or mentor multiple other engineers. These engineers may or may not be on your team.
