Req ID- FY24|R&D|#5449- Location(s)- Hyderabad, India;- Work arrangement(s)- Hybrid (works from home and New Relic office throughout the week)- Your opportunity- New Relic is seeking a Principal Database Architect with expertise in DbaaS (Database as a Service) platforms in multi-cloud ecosystems.

The role involves leading the vision and strategy for New Relic's DBaaS platform, focusing on security, global expansion, regional resilience, reliability, scalability, cost efficiency and developer tools.- What you'll do-Design, Architect, develop, and implement a scalable, reliable, cloud-agnostic DBaaS platform.


  • Own, publish, and drive vision and strategy for the DbaaS platform and drive and provide architectural guidance for security, reliability, scalability, resilience, performance optimization, and cost.
  • Own and manage technical roadmaps, balancing new features, service reliability, and technical debt reduction.
  • Explore and integrate new technologies to advance our platform and advise on tool selection and efficient technology use.
  • Prioritize effectively across business and technical requirements.
  • Facilitate technical communication across teams, organizations, and leadership.
  • Mentor engineers and teams on architecture and industry trends.
  • Adopt a DevOps mindset, including participating in on call rotations.
  • Collaborate with leadership, product management, and engineering to align priorities and plans.
  • Architects serve as the connective tissue between teams and organizations for all technical matters.
  • Promote an inclusive culture that values diverse perspectives.

  • If you are ready for this job, you have spent years building and supporting large distributed systems in the cloud. You know how to design and ship software while documenting it for others to understand. You keep up with technology trends and learn quickly. You enjoy technical debates while also promoting psychological safety and inclusivity.8+ years experience in building and managing a distributed DbaaS (database as a service) platform and a passion for tackling complex distributed system challenges.
  • Proven expertise in building and maintaining secure, scalable, and highly available cloud agnostic DBaaS platforms.
  • Strong experience in developing and maintaining database infrastructure on major public cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Strong experience in architectural patterns and anti patterns for resiliency, geo availability, and disaster recovery.
  • Experience with large, complex, geographically distributed enterprise environments.


  • Proficient in Infrastructure as

  • Code (e.
g., Terraform, Helm) for multi-cloud and multi-region deployment.

  • Skilled in optimizing cloud database infrastructure for reliability, availability, scale, performance, and cost.
  • Familiarity with modern cloud deployments, compute, storage, networking, containers, databases, and security.
  • Effective at driving transformational projects, and unifying technical teams around a common architecture.
  • Proven track record of setting and achieving ambitious goals, guided by metrics.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of engaging both technical and executive audiences.
  • Comfortable working across time zones(IN\US\EU time zones) in a fast paced setting.
  • Knowledgeable in Agile and other software development methodologies.
  • Bonus points if you have
  • SQL or NoSQL database management including schema design, query optimization, and performance tuning.
  • Active participation in opensource development.
  • Solid understanding of the Linux OS (Docker/Kubernetes/EC2/containers/VMs)
  • Experience with Crossplane/DataPlane or similar tools for controlling cloudmanaged services
  • Experience in large cloud DBaaS production environments, for example MySQL, PostgreSQL, and Redis on the AWS Aurora/Elasticache, Google CloudSQL/Memorystore, and Azure Database/Cache platforms.
