execution of the project in 18 months.
Description of the

project is as below:

To design a ocean going 20 feet container made of Corten steel
which can fold/collapse to no larger than 1/3 of its original size
and internal volume when empty. Three folded containers
should occupy same size as a normal container. When unfolded
it should be the same size externally and internally to comply
with the standard 20 feet container as per ISO specifications. The
design should also be scale able and work for a 40 feet container
with the same conditions i.e. to one third its size and comply
with the ISO requirement.

  • The design (s) should be unique and patentable. It should not
overlap or incorporate any features of existing folding containers
already in the market or which have been patented. To ensure
that this does not happen research should be done as to what is
already patented.

  • The folding /unfolding mechanism should be electro
mechanical and not require any human intervention. The folding
process should be mechanised and should work electrically.
Once plugged in and at the press of a button, the container
should fold when empty and open up when plugged in and be
ready for use.

  • The design should meet the ISO certifications for 20 feet. The
design and the proto type should be certified by certifying
agencies such as Lloyds or Bureau Veritas.

  • The certifying process for a container generally involves
pressure the container would face on the ship while at sea,
including stacking load of as per ISO Standards and water
pressures and violent movement of during rough seas.

  • Once folded the three containers should have the ability to lock
into each other using a locking system such as twist locks etc.

Post/by hand to the address given below on before the last date.
