Description

Ensures the hiring and continued employment of quality personnel by directly or indirectly supervising the selection, training and evaluation of the management information systems staff.

Provides for continued growth and improvement of the Computer Services Department by assisting in the development of short

- and long-range goals for the department and by evaluating progress toward accomplishment of those goals.

Promotes the cohesiveness of the management information systems staff by conducting periodic staff meetings as an opportunity to share experiences, discuss issues and formulate plans.
Facilitates user departments obtaining new computer systems or modifications to existing systems by understanding the functions of the user department and analyzing current processing and procedures, advising them on appropriate alternatives to meet their computing needs and assisting them in the preparation of associated requests.
Oversees automation of academic and administrative tasks by designing computer information systems which effectively perform those tasks.
Ensures the success of new management information systems by coordinating the implementation of all new systems introduced on campus.
Effectively resolves complex programming problems by conducting a thorough analysis of the problems and employing strategies for resolution.
Promotes the uniformity of the programming effort by contributing to and adhering to the Computer Services departmental standards and guidelines.
Promotes the professional development and training of systems analysts by participating in design reviews of new computing systems.
Ensures the availability of computer resources by managing recovery from data loss caused by events like power outages, hardware failures, etc.
Coordinates the administration, maintenance, and training associated with the mainframe database management system.
Facilitates a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.
Remains competent and current through self-directed reading of professional journals, cultivating professional contacts, attending professional conferences, and attending training and/or courses as required.
Contributes to the overall success of Computer Services by performing all other duties as assigned by the Director of Computer Services.
