Required Qualification - Bachelor's in Optometry (mandatory)

Required Experience - 3 to 6 Years in Hospital

Roles and Responsibilities:

They work under direct supervision of an ophthalmologist.
To assist ophthalmologists in carrying out eye examination of patients.
To prepare patients for examination.
They are responsible for recording history of the patient about his/her illness and doing refraction (anterior segment examination).
They are responsible for instillation of diagnostic drugs in patient eyes.
They are authorized to prescribe and fit various vision aids such as spectacles, contact lenses etc.
They will verify the dispensed optical aids, spectacles etc for correctness.
Cases are seen by optometrist before being referred to an ophthalmologist.
To prescribe vision therapy and orthoptic treatment.
To use equipments and instruments at disposal to find out correct type of refractive error and visual abnormality.
To use other diagnostic equipments as per advise of the doctor.
To ensure correct recording of visual acuity.
They are also responsible for external eye examination to find out any visual abnormality in the eye.
To prescribe correct glasses, contact lenses etc.
To train the patient in wearing contact lenses etc.
They are responsible for counseling services. To guide patients about eye health and correct way of using eyes.
They are also responsible for treating binocular abnormalities with the help of a synoptophore.
To prepare patients for eye surgery.
To assist during surgery if asked for.
They are also responsible for organizing eye cramps.
He is also responsible for dispensing of various eye exercises and educate them.
Will be responsible for safe custody and proper maintenance of equipments put under his/her control.
