Summary

Responsible for the validation of complex quantitative models used within the company, with focus on AI/ML and Credit Risk/PPNR models.

Model validators perform independent analysis to provide effective challenge to the models by evaluating model related risks including input data, model assumptions and limitations, conceptual soundness, methodology, outcomes analysis, benchmarking, monitoring, and model implementation.

Major Duties

  • Responsible for validation of models that are typically developed in Python or SAS. Able to challenge conceptual soundness of machine learning, credit risk, and time series models as well as assure that appropriate and good quality data was used for development.
  • Develops understanding of modeling methodologies in credit risk area (logistic regression, etc.), time series analysis and forecasting, and AI/ML models/algorithms used in supervised and unsupervised learning.
  • Utilizes expertise in machine learning algorithms and statistics to challenge how algorithms are selected, trained, and tested.
  • Has good understanding of CCAR stress testing and SR 117 model risk requirements
  • Ensures model development, monitoring, and validation approaches meet regulatory expectations and internal risk management needs
  • Provides analytical or risk measurement support to help meet both internal corporate and regulatory requirements
  • Develop indepth knowledge of business units/functions and complex modeling techniques used
  • Independently validate models with focus on accuracy and completeness.
  • Adept stakeholder management and smooth interaction with various model owners
  • Clearly communicate the complex issues/findings of the model validation outcomes to stakeholders.
  • Keep abreast with latest regulatory requirements around model risk management
  • Evaluates existing model risk framework in relation to department objectives and industry leading practices, and actively provides solutions to enhance the model risk management/validation framework.
Knowledge/Skills

  • Strong analytical and problemsolving skills combined with conceptual and technical knowledge of risk concepts
  • Knowledge of AI/ML methodologies and algorithms such as deep neural nets, clustering, NLP methodologies, LLM, and other emerging AI/ML use cases
  • Knowledge of credit risk and time series modeling methodologies and their validation. Most if these models are used for CCAR/CECL purposes
  • Knowledge of Python and SAS is required; R and SQL preferred
  • Cloud computing knowledge is preferred

Experience Required

  • Postgraduate degree in a quantitative discipline (math, statistics, economics)
  • Experience of working with deep learning, LLM (GenAI, etc.), and other ML methodologies is preferred
  • Banking or similar industry qualification is preferred
