Project Overview:


Bechtel is seeking to work with a major Indian corporation to provide Project Management Consultant (PMC) Services and Engineering Procurement and Construction Management (EPCM) Services for offsites and utilities (OSBL) for a multi-billion-dollar upgrade / expansion of their existing petrochemical facilities in India.

The PMC Services will be led out of India with personnel deployed in Mumbai region, the project sites in India, as well as several key contractor locations across India.

The EPCM Services for OSBL will be led out of Bechtel's India offices.


This position will start as an assignment in Mumbai, India (office) prior to the receipt of the full notice to proceed from the Owner and will eventually transition to the job site for the EPC execution of the project.


Job Summary:


Responsible for the organization and activities relating to surveying engineering including supervising and directing survey team activities, subordinate surveyors and others, as required.

Ensures assigned construction operations and subcontractors' performance are in compliance with specifications and within schedules and budgets.


Job Dimensions:


A. Supervision Received

  • Receives technical and operational guidance from Lead Surveyor or other assigned supervising manager.

B. Supervision Exercised

  • Provides technical and administrative direction to contractors.

C. Contacts

  • Jobsite contacts are with jobsite personnel including subcontractors related to survey engineering and operating personnel to coordinate survey/construction activities.

Major Job Responsibilities:


  • Supports the implementation and monitoring of the survey program in accordance with Construction Surveying SWPP.
  • Develops and maintains site survey data.
  • Develops and controls the survey work request form program.
  • Oversees Survey quality control.
  • Provides project completion documentation including "As-Built" records.
  • Performs verifications of subcontract survey work.
  • Reviews and provides input to project controls documents on progress relating to cost and schedule, and material receiving reports and warehousing to assure delivery of correct materials.
  • Develops project construction procedures.
  • Plans and recommends procedures to be implemented by construction contractors to ensure surveying operations are within requirements of engineering design and specifications.
  • Maintenance of construction engineering records for job history. Supervises the receiving, distribution and filing of plans and specifications.
  • Implements controls over variables affecting job progress to ensure engineering and procurement provide timely delivery of drawings, materials, and equipment and to ensure that other corporate programs are fully utilized.
  • Coordinates with the Lead Surveyor/Area Field Engineer for any work related to contract administration and activities affecting the contract administration operation.

Education and Experience Requirements:


  • A recognized degree in Civil engineering or scientific discipline. Actual work experience leading to a thorough understanding of the technical knowledge described above.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


  • Experience with Total stations & R series GPS.
  • Experience in the use of Global Positioning System (GPS) survey technology and Robotic Total Station instruments.
  • Advanced knowledge of data collection and downloading.
  • Experience in surveying activities.
  • Thorough knowledge of construction activities as they relate to engineering disciplines, cost and scheduling, and contract administration.
  • Knowledge of Indian standards and specification and codes as applicable, including various safety procedures and practices associated with the construction activities.
  • Familiar with Bechtel's Business
