    Job Description
    About Client:
    • Our client is a federal corporation based in Toronto and authorized to work throughout Canada.
    Responsibilities: Take patients' general medical and ophthalmic history
    • Operate ophthalmic testing and measuring instruments to aid in assessing patients' vision
    • Instruct patients on diagnostic test and record results
    • Administer eye drops, ointments and medications as directed by the professionals
    • Clean and maintain ophthalmic instruments and equipment
    • Perform various administrative duties
    • Manage dispensary: frames/lens inventory, training/managing fellow optical dispensers, dispensing patients into suitable glasses and lenses
    • Operate and train team members on diagnostic optometry equipment/tests, record results to aid optometrists in assessing patients' vision and eye health
    • Schedule and confirm appointments
    • Perform general clerical duties
    • Maintain inventory of equipment
    • Manage routine office functions including reception, telephone and booking appointments
    • Order supplies and equipment
    • Obtain specifications for eyeglasses or contact lenses from a prescription prepared by an Ophthalmologist and take necessary measurements.
    • Advise clients on eyeglasses selection by informing them of different products such as lens materials, frames, tints and anti-reflection coating.
    • Adjust contact lenses and inform client on use and care.
    • May supervise or manage the activities of other opticians or student opticians.


    Requirements

    Education: Completion of secondary school is required.

    Experience: A minimum of 2 year of experience in the optometric field is required OR if the worker doesn't have the required experience, completion of a six to twelve month optometric assistant or a related field college program is required.

    Previous optical and dispensary management (frames/lens inventory, fellow optical dispensers) experience is required.

    Experience with optical lab and pre exam equipment is required.

    Ability to accurately perform manual refractions is required.
