Job Summary:

As a Turner, you will be responsible for operating and maintaining turning machines to fabricate precision metal components according to engineering specifications and quality standards.

Your role will involve interpreting technical drawings, selecting appropriate cutting tools, and ensuring the efficient and accurate production of machined parts.

Responsibilities:

Set up and prepare turning machines (such as lathes) for operation by installing and adjusting cutting tools, chucks, and workpieces according to job requirements.
Study and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and work instructions to determine machining operations, dimensions, tolerances, and finishing requirements.
Operate turning machines to machine various metal components, including shafts, cylinders, and bushings, to precise specifications and surface finishes.
Monitor machine operations to ensure proper functioning and detect deviations from specifications, such as dimensional inaccuracies, surface defects, or tool wear.
Adjust machine controls, such as spindle speed, feed rate, and depth of cut, as necessary to optimize machining processes and maintain quality standards.
Inspect machined parts using precision measuring instruments, such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges, to verify dimensions and tolerances.
Make tool changes, adjustments, and offsets as needed to correct deviations and ensure consistent quality and accuracy of machined components.
Perform routine maintenance tasks on turning machines, including cleaning, lubricating, and replacing worn or damaged tooling and machine parts.
Troubleshoot machine malfunctions and perform minor repairs to minimize downtime and maintain productivity.
Adhere to safety protocols and procedures at all times, including wearing appropriate PPE and following lockout/tagout procedures when performing maintenance activities.
Maintain accurate records of production activities, including quantities produced, scrap rates, and machine downtime, to support performance tracking and reporting.
Collaborate with colleagues and supervisors to optimize production processes, identify areas for improvement, and implement solutions to enhance efficiency and quality.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent qualification required; vocational training or certification in machining or mechanical engineering preferred.
Proven experience operating turning machines, such as lathes, in a manufacturing or machining environment.
Proficiency in interpreting technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
Strong understanding of machining principles, cutting tool geometry, and metal cutting techniques.
Ability to use precision measuring instruments, such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges, to inspect and verify machined components.
Attention to detail and commitment to producing highquality work with mínimal errors.
Effective problemsolving skills and ability to troubleshoot machine malfunctions and deviations from specifications.
Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Knowledge of safety protocols and procedures related to machine operation and maintenance.
Physical stamina and ability to stand for extended periods and lift heavy objects as required.
