The Backup Administrator's role is to operate and performance-tune Backup platforms across the organization to ensure high levels of data quality, availability, and security.

This individual also participates in the planning and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure platform provisioning, efficiency, and maintenance that is consistent with company goals, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements.


Task and Responsibilities:

  • Perform tasks necessary to fulfill service level agreements with endusers regarding backups, security, and availability.
  • Perform and test backups and restores to ensure that enterprise data is effectively protected.
  • Communicate and enforce, through system procedures, data storage retention policies.
  • Follow change control, incident response, and testing processes for modifications to storage appliances and software.
  • Anticipate, mitigate, identify, respond to, and resolve issues with backup platforms and backup restores.
  • Monitor, analyze, and predict trends for backup platform performance, space allocation, and data growth to recommend enhancements to the Storage & Data protection team.
  • Remain informed on backup laws, trends, and issues, including current and emerging technologies and best practices; advise, counsel, and educate executive and management teams on their relative importance.
  • Ensure that information backup measures and equipment adhere to all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Create required reports in response to business user needs.
  • Develop, document, and maintain operational processes and tasks.
  • Understanding of backup automation

Qualifications:

  • Overall 5+ years' experience as Backup Administrator.
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field.
  • Experience with Cohesity, Commvault and Veritas NetBackup
  • Experience with cloud computing technologies, such as Azure, is desirable.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to collaborate with crossfunctional teams and communicate technical information to nontechnical stakeholders.
  • Technical skills
  • Operational expertise with Commvault, Veritas NetBackup and Cohesity enterpriseclass backup platforms is a must for this position. Solid understanding of backup architecture design techniques, theories, principles, and practices.
  • Working technical experience with designing, building, installing, configuring, and supporting backup platform.
  • Handson experience of Backup tools E.g Veritas NetBackup / Cohesity/Commvault
  • Understanding of Disaster recovery tools & management
  • Understanding of ITIL processes and best practice
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken
  • Must be highly motivated and have a positive attitude
  • Excellent listening and customer service skills
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Must be a team player
  • Must be mature and tactful
  • Understanding of SLA terms
  • Proven track record working in a global and multicultural environment
