Materials Scientists will be responsible for:

  • Collecting and reviewing material science and stability information for all SRC products.

This information will be gathered from:

  • General Material Science Literature Databases
  • Raw Material Suppliers
  • Manufacturers
  • Post-Market Surveillance
  • Reliability Engineering
  • Existing Biocompatibility Technical Documentation
  • Review material requirements and assist with identifying formation gaps.
  • Communicate and coordinate analysis with SRC BioC Group.
  • Assess material information gaps and coordinate corrective actions with project teams.
  • Assist with creating a master database for all materials used within the SRC product portfolio.
  • Provide weekly project status reports.
  • Prioritize project tasks to complete on schedule while maintaining quality of work.
  • Work in a team environment; peer review work.
  • Work on multiple, concurrent projects.
  • Interact with BioC Engineers to material information is sufficient to support whole life cycle assessments.
  • Learn from and adhere to internal quality manual (Quality System Procedures, Work Instructions, Forms).

Qualifications:


  • Master's degree in (polymer) chemistry or (polymer) material science
  • 5+ years' experience in product or process development in relation to polymer materials.
  • Experience with Applied Chemistry, Chemical Analysis and Materials & Finishing Technologies
  • Scouting and selection of new polymer materials & processing/finishing technologies which make new designs and functions in Philips SRC products possible. Experience and interests in i.e. Functional materials and integration of materials in a medical device setting is appreciated.
  • Able to gather and translate needs in (project) proposals and execute these.
  • Contribute to long term competence development in the area of polymer materials & processing.
  • Affinity with process simulations of plastic parts, i.e. Moldflow and with finishing technologies like coating, printing, inmold assembly, texturing
  • Develop and maintain an excellent network in the area of expertise. Open mind for the cooperation with other (technical) disciplines, external partners and companies.
  • Understanding of cleaning solvents and interactions with polymer materials
  • Strong root cause analysis background and ability to understand failure modes
  • Ability to perform failure mode investigations to support CAPA process.
  • Basic understanding of FDA, EU MDR and Spectaris C&D guidance, along with global medical device regulations, requirements, and standards preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Experience using test instrumentation and equipment in and out of a Lab environment.
  • Strong commitment to quality and aptitude to understand regulations and compliance standards.
  • Knowledge of biological testing that supports the assessments of C&D evaluations.
  • Strong independent worker with little or no guidance a must.
  • Ability to overcome obstacles and provide solutions to complex problems.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
