    OVERVIEW

    The Publishing Assistant, Special Collections position will support the SC program by carrying out important tasks to evaluate Special Collection proposals, ensure public SC pages are kept up-to-date, and support the SC teams outreach initiatives. The role will correspond directly with the SC Team based in the US/UK on a weekly basis for assistance with training and troubleshooting. The role will be expected to maintain high quality communication with editorial team members, other Sage staff, and external authors, reviewers and editors where appropriate.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The job functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

    1. Evaluate the quality of Special Collection proposals submitted to Sage OA journals by conducting standard vetting checks on the Guest Editors and proposal information to ensure they meet journal requirements.
    2. Profile lists of potential contacts for SC Team outreach.
    3. Ensure new article publications are uploaded to SC public pages.
    4. Set up status updates and submission notification emails for Guest Editors.
    5. Maintain positive working relationships and top-quality communication with journal editors, authors, reviewers, and Sage staff throughout the world.
    6. Respond to any email inquiries from journal editors, authors, reviewers, and other Sage staff within 48 hours of receiving the email (excluding weekends and holidays), and respond in a clear, articulated, and organized manner.
    7. Perform work with moderate supervision.
    8. Maintain editorial knowledge and proficiency

    QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION

    Any combination equivalent to, but not limited to, the following:

    • Graduate in any discipline, ideally in the field of Science or Engineering.
    • 0-1 years experience in journal publishing.

    LANGUAGE, ANALYTICAL SKILLS AND SPECIFICATIONS

    • Written and verbal communication skills
    • Comfortable interacting with experienced leading academics
    • Highly Organized
    • Comfortable working as part of a team and also on solo projects
    • Pro-active attitude
