About the Organisation:

Vacha is a Resource Centre for Girls and Women based in Mumbai. Vacha means speech, articulation and self-expression. Started as a women's library and cultural centre in 1987, it was registered as Vacha Charitable Trust in 1990.

Envisioning a society built on the principles of social justice, equity and democracy, Vacha establishes safe educational centres for adolescent girls in their _bastis _by providing them with 21stcentury life skills such as computer training, conversational English and social awareness.

Vacha ideates and creates learning resources including audio-visual materials, booklets and modules in join collaboration with the programme participants, Vacha staff and other experts.

Vacha's vision is of world without exploitation, oppression, or discrimination against women, girls or any other section of society.

Our mission is to focus on issues of girls and women through educational programmes, resource creation, research, training, networking and awareness building.

Belief in girls' leadership and visibilising girls' issues at micro and macro level is the core component of our work.


Title of the Position:
Coordinator - Project Operations Mumbai


Position Summary:


The Coordinator - Project Operation Mumbai, will report to the Director and works with project coordinators, assistant coordinators and community organisers of Vacha to design, implement, and manage Vacha's girls' and youth empowerment programmes in _bastis _located in Mumbai.

The person will be responsible for ensuring that Vacha meets its program outcomes within the time constraint and the given budget while upholding organizational values.

She will review the multiple projects, design, and prepare project plan and budget plan periodically in coordination with the projects team.

The person will act as a link between the field team and the leadership team. She should be able to meetup deadlines, deal with the resource crunch and should have solution oriented approach.


Responsibilities:

Project roles

  • Managing project operations in Vacha resource centres in bastis and in schools across Mumbai suburbs.
  • Working closely with the field team and director to prepare strategic and actionbased project plan.
  • Working with MIS team to ensure timely submission of project reports from the field team as per Vacha's MIS system.
  • Regular visits to the field for the project monitoring, occasionally conducting relevant sessions/training programmes on youth and gender issues with participants.
  • Giving inputs and sharing insights with leadership team for the progress of the project.
  • Supporting project coordinators to engage with community leaders, communitybased organisations, women and child development dept., police system, Child Welfare Committee, and other relevant authorities to seek their supports in girls' leadership programmes.
  • Monitoring and submitting project budgets and expenses in coordination with Project Coordinators and Finance and Admin Head.
  • Supporting leadership team in preparing project proposals and the project reports.
  • Writing impactbased project reports after incorporating insights from field visits, reports submitted by the field team as well as having discussion with the field team.
  • In coordination with the project teams, preparing sharing the monthly plan of Vacha centres in Mumbai.
  • Contributing to resource creation and compilation of resources relevant to girls' concerns.
Ideological / value based roles

  • Working in alignment with Vacha's vision and mission.
  • Articulating gender perspective and values of equality in programme planning and while representing organisation at various platforms.
  • In coordination with HR Coordinator, developing processes in the team so that the values cascade within the organisation.
Leadership roles

  • Demonstrating responsible and cordial behaviour in managing project operations.
  • Working as Point of Contact for the field team in Mumbai suburbs.
  • Working closely with the project coordinators to ensure smooth functioning of project activities.
  • Ensuring the decorum in the organisation while maintaining the moral and spirit of the team members.
  • Representing organisation at city/national/international level conferences, seminars, meetings etc.

Requirements:


  • Master degree in Social Sciences/Developmental field from reputed college/university.
  • Three to five years of experience in middle level managerial position in working in NGOs preferably on gender, women, children or youth issues.
  • Proficiency over English and Hindi. Working knowledge of Marathi is preferable.
  • Proficiency in MS office functions of computer and should have a good communication skills.
  • Must be willing to travel in field and if required, outstation (residential/nonresidential) for training, networking and project monitoring.
