Job Description Summary:

Materials Organization of GE Research is at the forefront of building foundational understanding of structural and functional materials that is translated into enabling new product and services for GE.

We use a combination of experimental and modeling methods towards accelerated discovery, development, and deployment of material solutions.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Conceptual, or theoretical activities relating to the development, improvement, and usage of materials, coatings, and processes undertaken to build, apply, or shape the materials.
  • Problem solving across the spectrum of Discovery, Development, and Deployment of highperformance ceramic and functional materials
  • Constant awareness of megatrends in the world, and the materials solutions that are needed to enable these megatrends
  • Building depth in own technical discipline to execute on programs.
  • Basic understanding of key business drivers; uses this understanding to accomplish own work. Good understanding of how work of own team integrates with other teams and contributes to the area.
  • May have some autonomy to make decisions within a defined framework. Resolves issues in situations that require good technical knowledge and judgment within established procedures. Consults senior team members for issues outside of defined instructions/parameters.
  • A job at this level requires good interpersonal skills and require working in a team environment. Present technical progress on projects to teams & business stakeholders on weekly cadence.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Masters degree in Materials Science, chemistry, ceramics with research experience in discovery and/or development of new chemistries/materials
  • Strong knowledge of ceramic materials synthesis
  • Good publication and/or patent record.
  • Should be able to quote clear past examples for the following
  • Good teaming skills and ability to work with wide range of technical teams and projects.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Desired Characteristics

  • Knowledge of chemistryprocessingstructureproperty relationships in ceramic materials
  • Expertise in microstructural analysis and representation
  • Ability to work across all functions/levels as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to bring assignments to a successful completion
  • Ability to anticipate customer needs and ensure that they are met
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
