Where you fit


As a Product Owner for AWS Data Platform, you're going to be part of the Platform Engineering team in the Data and Analytics Portfolio under the Digital Platforms portfolio in the Enterprise Technology and Project team (ETP), which reports to the CIO IT Service Operations.

Data and Analytics is a fast emerging area in Shell with a vision of building a coherent design approach to the delivery of an accessible, Cloud-centric, Enterprise ready suite of digital data and analytical tools which allows Shell to realize and accelerate business value.

The Data and Analytics portfolio consists of technology areas like Azure and AWS Data Platform, Master Data Management (Informatica MDM), Enterprise Data Catalogue (Collibra), Data Science Tools (Azure Machine Learning & AWS SageMaker) and Data Virtualization tools (Dremio & Databricks).

The diverse set of niche technologies provide an opportunity for upskilling and cross-skilling where needed.


What's the role?


As a Product Owner for AWS Data Platform, you'll work closely with AWS Data Platform projects to improve, enhance, and deploy new capabilities at the same time acting as the technical Product Owner for these services.

The product owner responsibilities include maintaining the demand funnel, maintaining the integrated service enhancement plan, component service roadmaps, owning the initiation and delivery of the service enhancements.


Other accountabilities:

  • Capturing business problems, value drivers, and functional/nonfunctional requirements, including health, safety, security, usability, data, and supportability considerations.
  • Have good interpersonal skills and communicate effectively with global stakeholders, internally and externally, typically works within crossfunctional teams including architects and IT Engineering staff.
  • Effectively conduct meetings getting buyin and participation from stakeholders, building and managing efficient relationships with Natural Team.
  • Translate business requirements into functionality and assess the risks, feasibility, opportunities, and business impacts of various solution options.

What we need from you

  • With at least 5 to 8 years in IT
  • Graduate of any Engineering Degree
  • Proven track record in handling full product lifecycle management on AWS Data Platforms


  • Commercial Awareness

  • Influence on programme scope of $USD 2M+
  • Consultant mindset must be constantly thinking about how the status quo could be improved
  • Demonstrate a proactive attitude to problemsolving and have excellent analytical & communication capabilities. Should be able to identify common technical and operational problems, evaluate potential solutions and provide relevant advice

Key Technical Skills:

  • Strong technical knowledge on AWS big data platforms provisioning, configuring, and developing solutions using technologies such as Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), S3, Elastic Block Store (EBS), Virtual Private Cloud (VPC), Elastic IP's, Security Groups, Cloudwatch, Snapshots, Amazon Machine Images and Elastic Load Balancing (ELB).
  • Experience with Databricks on AWS Platform.
  • Nice to have experience with DevOps environments, scripting, and automation (Infrastructure as Code), Microsoft PowerShell (required), Terraform (preferred) and CI/CD pipeline.
  • Nice to have experience on source code management and familiarity with source control tools and repositories such as Github, Azure Devops etc.
Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Good understanding of core IT competences ITIL, Portfolio/Project Management and Service Management.
  • Experience in business analysis skills by capturing business problems, value drivers, and functional/nonfunctional requirements, including health, safety, security, usability, data, and supportability considerations.
  • Experience with SAFe, Agile/Edge and DevOps project methodologies.
  • Language: Fluent in English (oral and written).
