A BIM (Building Information Modeling) Certified Electrical Modeler is responsible for creating and managing digital models of electrical systems within buildings and infrastructure projects using BIM software.

Here is a typical job description for a BIM Certified Electrical Modeler:

Responsibilities:

  • Develop detailed 3D models of electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, and other electrical components, using BIM software (such as Autodesk Revit, Bentley Systems, or ArchiCAD).
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, and other stakeholders to understand project requirements and incorporate electrical design intent into the BIM models.
  • Ensure accurate representation of electrical systems within the BIM environment, including the placement of electrical equipment, fixtures, conduits, cable trays, and other related components.
  • Coordinate electrical systems with other building elements, such as architectural, structural, and mechanical components, to avoid clashes and conflicts.
  • Create and maintain accurate and up-to-date 2D drawings, schedules, and reports derived from the BIM model, including electrical layouts, panel schedules, and equipment lists.
  • Perform clash detection analysis to identify and resolve conflicts between electrical systems and other building systems.
  • Collaborate with the design team to implement electrical design changes in the BIM model and ensure their integration across the project.
  • Extract relevant information from the BIM model to support electrical design reviews, coordination meetings, and construction planning.
  • Assist in the coordination and integration of BIM models with other project-related software and tools, such as electrical load analysis, energy modeling, and cost estimation.
  • Stay updated with the latest BIM software advancements, electrical design standards, and industry best practices related to electrical systems modeling.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
  • Certification in BIM software, such as Autodesk Revit Certified Professional or equivalent, is required.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems design principles, codes, and standards, including electrical distribution, lighting, fire alarm, and low-voltage systems.
  • Familiarity with electrical equipment, fixtures, conduits, cable trays, and related components used in building construction.
  • Experience with electrical load calculations and analysis within the BIM environment.
  • Understanding of construction documentation and ability to create accurate 2D electrical drawings, schedules, and reports.
  • Knowledge of industry-specific protocols and standards for electrical systems modeling and coordination, such as IFC (Industry Foundation Classes) and COBie (Construction Operations Building Information Exchange).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail to ensure accuracy and integrity of electrical systems within the BIM models.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills to work within multidisciplinary project teams.
