Performing Maha Mritunjaya Puja in Ujjain: A Simple Guide

Maha Mritunjaya Puja is a significant ritual in Hinduism that is believed to bring positivity, healing, and protection. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva, who is considered the god of destruction and creation. One of the sacred places to perform this puja is in the city of Ujjain, a holy city in India known for its spiritual significance. If you're interested in performing the Maha Mritunjaya Puja in Ujjain, here's a simple guide to the puja vidhi (procedure).

Materials You Will Need:

Before you begin, make sure you have the necessary items for the puja. These typically include:

  1. Idol or Image of Lord Shiva: You can have a small Shiva idol or a picture to represent Lord Shiva during the puja.
  2. Panchamrit: A mixture of five ingredients – milk, curd, honey, ghee (clarified butter), and sugar.
  3. Water: For offering during the puja.
  4. Bilva Leaves: These are considered dear to Lord Shiva.
  5. Incense Sticks and Diya (Lamp): For lighting and offering.
  6. Fruits and Flowers: Offerings to Lord Shiva.
  7. Sandalwood Paste and Kumkum (Vermilion): For applying tilak (mark) on the idol.
  8. Rice and Roli (Colored Powder): For making rangoli (design) and applying tilak.
  9. Coconut: An important offering.
  10. Puja Thali: A plate to hold all the items

       Puja Vidhi (Procedure)

  1. Purification: Start by purifying yourself with a bath and clean clothes. Find a peaceful place to perform the puja.
  2. Set-Up: Place the idol or image of Lord Shiva on a clean and elevated platform. Light the diya and incense sticks.

  4. Offerings:
    • Offer water to wash the feet of the idol, symbolizing respect.
    • Apply sandalwood paste, kumkum, and rice on the idol's forehead.
