Depending on role and business needs, colleagues will either work onsite, in a hybrid model (combination of in-office and virtual days) or fully virtually.


Merchant Acquisition team is primarily responsible for acquiring new merchants in the market and increasing coverage of American Express in India.

The leader works on developing strong relationships with these merchants, ensuring warm acceptance and Point of Sale visibility for American Express brand.

roll out special merchant funded or joint promotional activities for our valued cardmembers across proprietary and GNS partners issued cards to drive billings and revenue


Purpose of the Role

  • Grow Amex penetration & usage across key customers/partners in India in the assigned geography

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for a leading a team of Band 28 RM(s) and third party resources to acquire and increase the portfolio of new merchants in the territory.
  • The primary focus of this role is warm acceptance and ensuring increase in coverage of American express in India.
  • Ensuring acceptance in all key industry segments in India.
  • Ensuring merchants are offered and enabled for all forms of acceptance contactless, EMI, pay with point, pay by link etc. as required by respective merchants
  • Reinforcing core American Express value and strategy against these needs, along with emerging marketplace technologies, will be critical.
  • Nurture the relationship with new merchants to drive charge volume, grow transactions and increase merchant satisfaction.
  • Drive network enhancement initiatives.
  • Develop and implement targeted marketing campaigns that will both deliver additional cardmember benefits and drive spend with new accounts.
  • Develop a prospect and holdout base for the region.

Past Experience:


  • Sales, Relationship & Servicing background
  • Payments industry knowledge

Functional Skills/Capabilities

  • Indepth understanding of clients, payments & market landscape
  • Relationship management on a large scale with medium and small merchant categories
  • Understanding of financial basics
  • Indepth knowledge of AXP products/ services to create a differentiated value

Knowledge of Platforms

  • MS office suits (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access)

Minimum 5 years of experience post MBA / Post Graduation. GMS India work experience and GMS process knowledge will be a strong advantage
