Role & Responsibilities:

What is the purpose of this role?

A Multicloud Platform that will operate across Public (AWS, Azure, GCP), Private and Edge Clouds. The Platform will support both Containers (Kubernetes) and Server based deployments. These Platforms will employ best of breed technologies and are designed to encourage best practice application design/development/operation such as automation and CI/CD.

We are looking for a talented and enthusiastic DevSecOps Engineer to join our team and help drive it's success into the future.

The platforms are operational hosting many strategic Applications and Services. The team will support the production and non-production environments, help onboard new Applications/Services and continue to build out value add capabilities into the platform.

How does the role contribute to business strategy?

These platforms are a key contributor to:

· The company "Digitisation" program enabling devops teams using the platforms to take advantage of cloud technologies.

· The #9025 program goal of moving 90% of the eligible apps to the Public Cloud

What are the measurable outcomes of this role?

Uptime of UAT/SVT environment

Minimise Production outages

Continuous feature delivery and Automation of changes deployed in UAT/SVT

Develop lifecycle plans and enhancements for the Infrastructure platforms to meet performance and operational requirements

Key Accountabilities

· Must have examples:

o Linux and/ or WIndows: how it works, how it boots, services, how logging is done, distributions (e.g. CentOS, Ubuntu, etc).

o Docker: how to write a Docker file

o Intermediate level: security model (IAM user, groups, roles and policies), important AWS (or Azure equivalent) services like EC2, Lambda, S3, RDS and what they are and what they do.

o Terraform or CloudFormation/Bison or CDK (which implies knowledge about AWS)

o Coding at an at least basic level in Python, Ruby, GoLang, Rust.Bash scripting knowledge

o Basic network knowledge: IP addressing, routes, gateways, difference between TCP and UDP, what ports most common services use

o Basic knowledge about common machine parse-able formats: YAML and JSON

o Basic knowledge: Virtualisation (vSphere, VMs, datastores, etc.)

o Basic general troubleshooting skills: understand the architecture and break it down into parts, test individual parts, Ansible and packer and Git.

o Cloud security feature delivery

o Leading teams in Multiple Timezones

o Network security: what a firewall is, how firewalls rules are created, advanced protocol knowledge (TCP flags, etc), packet capture and interpretation

o How HTTP works: methods, structure of a HTTP request and response, REST API.

o HTTP knowledge: what an API is, how it is implemented, authentication and authorization methods and protocol (HTTP basic, digest, SAML, OpenID Connect, etc)

o Cisco knowledge: IOS, routing protocols such as BGP, IGRP or OSPF.

o How to configure routing, NAT and access lists.

o Advanced vSphere knowledge: the REST or SOAP API

o Advanced coding knowledge: knows one or two web frameworks for Python/Ruby or other languages and how to write a simple API or API client.

o Knows what and ORM (object relationship mapper) is and how to use it.

o Database knowledge: generic SQL is fine, MySQL and PostgreSQL is good to have (schema building, selects, inserts, joins, updates).

o Encryption: what is TLS and common usage, PKI and public/private keys, common implementations and how to make use of tools such as OpenSSL to troubleshoot encrypted connections. TLS Certificates and how to request, generate and inspect the attributes.

o Any advanced AWS or Azure service knowledge: Lambda functions from scratch, IAM / RBAC policies from scratch, CodePipeline, Step functions, ECS/EKS/Fargate and AppMesh, etc

o Knowledge of ITIL practices/SRE principals (Incident management, Problem management, Change management)

· Include:

o Ideas/Thought Leadership - how should the platform evolve? What technologies should we adopt? How will it make the platform better?

o Design of the cloud platform

o Development of cloud platform

o Security of cloud platform

o Support and maintenance of the production and non-production environments

o Work with application and operations teams to ensure successful deployment and operation of their application

o Support the build and deployment infrastructure used by our development teams

o Respond to high severity production issues escalated by our operations teams
