The School and Community Relations Associate is responsible for managing school and community partnerships as well as supporting the Program team with Stakeholder Management in schools and communities.

Through the role, the Associate will demonstrate skills like operational excellence, problem-solving, and Investing others through relationship building.

S/he will be responsible for setting a strong culture of problem-solving and collaboration amongst Fellows and Stakeholders and work closely with the Program team and Government Relations Manager to ensure win-win partnerships in schools and communities.

As a part of this role, s/he will also be creating school level and community level proof points for the city which will directly impact the city's vision.


Team Overview:


Teach For India Chennai is currently in its ninth year of operations in the School Year , bringing alive Teach For India's vision and mission in the city and region at large.

The Chennai Operations Team focuses on enabling a community that creates strong talent pipelines for an excellent education through the Teach For India Fellowship.

The team's work will focus on both Fellows and Alumni leading on student impact, both at school and system levels.

You will be part of a passionate, caring, committed team of 87+ Fellows, 15+ Staff Members and 175+ Alumni who work closely with one another and along with other local partners towards maximizing opportunities and outcomes for children in education and related areas.


Responsibilities:


As an Associate, Government School and Community Relations

1.

Partner Schools and School Leaders:


  • Induct all our partner school HMs on our school placement criteria and ensuring that those are maintained throughout the year
  • Invest School Leaders through regular touchpoints and structures towards ensuring effective operations of the Fellowship in schools
  • Engage the School Leaders towards deepening their understanding about our movement and creating champions of our work in the region
  • Support in implementation of the Fellow placement strategy for the city taking into account the various factors at the city and organizational level
  • Collaborate with Program Managers towards supporting Fellows on school and community engagement and work closely with the Fellows to set structures and implement with the same HMs
  • Anchor day to day partnerships with Program team including coaching Program Managers wherever necessary on advocating for conditions necessary for students to succeed

Community Impact:


  • Partner with PMs and coach Fellows to drive community engagement structures to develop a deeper understanding of our stakeholders.
  • Identify, build and share a database of initiatives/policies/schemes that could potentially benefit our partner schools, parents and children, in the areas of safety, health and education.
  • Support Fellows along with Program Manager on projects related to stakeholders at the school and community level.
  • Support the City Child Protection Committee by actively advocating for child safety in the city.
  • Create awareness regarding the community initiatives and interventions in and around the region to the TFI community.

Government Relations and Advocacy:


  • Create advocacy projects in each school through HM towards creating schoollevel proof points
  • Work directly with the parents of students in the city and create parent leaders in the city as advocates of our movement.
  • Support the Government Relations Manager in maintaining sustainable relationships with the government bodies partnered towards Fellowship
  • Support the Government Relations Manager towards procuring permissions and MoUs from government and schools.

4. Additional Responsibilities

  • Support in organizational functions like Recruitment, Selection, Matriculation, Institute towards intended outcomes.
  • Support in planning and organizing city events like City Conferences, induction, midyear retreats.

As an Associate at Teach For India

  • Contributing to
    the team goals and priorities beyond individual goals and priorities.
  • Serving as an
    ambassador of the Teach For India brand and an advocate for our work and for educational equity in our country through both internal and external communication after committing time in our classrooms to understand our work more deeply.
  • Supporting key organizational areas such as
    Recruitment, Selection, Fundraising, Volunteering, and Movement Building.

Minimum Qualifications, Experiences and Expectations:


  • Graduate/ Post-Graduate Bachelor's Degree
  • 2+ years of work experience
  • Speak the local language (Tamil) fluently
  • Willingness to visit schools on a daily basis
  • Willingness to do community visits and lead communitybased projects
  • Highly action oriented and resourceful
  • Basic knowledge of NGO landscape in Tamilnadu / Chennai
