    Homeroom Teacher ( PYP)Location:

    Primary Head / Coordinator


    Core PurposeThe core purpose of the homeroom teacher role is to enable students to learn effectively and to provide support for the academic and pastoral needs of the students.

    The teacher should always support the aims and values of the school.


    General ResponsibilitiesAbide by school decisions and policiesModel and promote the IB learner profileUnderstand and live the school's missionContribute positively to staff moraleWork as a team playerCreate and maintain a safe and positive working environment and relationship with all colleaguesMaintain professional working relationships with colleagues, line managers, and administratorsMaintain professional relationships with students, parents, and staffTake part in all training provided by the school, both internal and externalBe prepared to report back about training and/or provide in-service to colleaguesActively participate in Appraisal ProceduresRepresent the school by being a good role modelEnsure a physically and emotionally safe environment for students through positive framing, kind communication with students and adults, and predictable, consistent routinesPromote independence and employ strategies to recognise and reward achievement of self- relianceAttend staff meetings and participate in group committee work as requiredProvide relevant information about student or parental concerns or conflicts to the Head of Primary/ relevant personsTo maintain confidentiality of privileged information about students, faculty members, and administration - Coordinate appropriate and ongoing displays of student workUse the IB guidelines for PYP.


    Teacher Effectiveness:
    Teaching & LearningThe teacher should:Contribute to the development of curriculum and production of units/schemes of workBecome familiar with the curriculum guidelines, and work towards their successful implementation Demonstrate an understanding of inquiry and give students choices to show their understandingDecide and explain clear learning objectives, and set appropriate assignments with an adequate time allocationPresent material in a clear, organized fashionStimulate interest in the subject matterSet work at the appropriate level and encourage high student performance, consistent with abilityUse a variety of methods and available teaching aids, aiming to meet the needs of the individual and the groupEncourage creative and critical thinking and expression of ideasProvide feedback that is designed to motivate the studentsEvaluate and record student progressContact parents through written reports and other formal and informal means, as requiredPlan activities to broaden the experience of the learner, as appropriatePlan Units of Inquiry and lessons by following IB curriculum framework collaboratively with the PYP Head & Specialist teachersWrite and implement learning objectives that are challenging and measurableMonitor, assess and report on learners' work and progressDemonstrate and pursue excellence in teaching and best practices in education
