Description
Responsibilities

  • **Assist developers and testers with troubleshooting and recommendations, including performance and functionality issues**
  • **Respond to database environment outages and resolve issues promptly**
  • **Manage database migrations between private data centers, public cloud platforms, and different database and hosting solutions**
  • **Regularly update and enhance databases to maintain platform security**
  • **Implement database backups to ensure data redundancy based on RPO/RTO requirements**
  • **Oversee, monitor, and optimize database production environments for peak availability and performance**
  • **Design efficient, robust, and cost-effective database solutions for Pearson projects requiring on-premise or cloud-based databases**
Qualifications

  • **Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field related to systems engineering like physics or mathematics, or equivalent practical background**
  • **Minimum of 6 years of experience supporting and managing MySQL and Microsoft SQL databases**
Preferred Qualifications

  • **At least 3 years of experience handling MongoDB and No-SQL databases (Enterprise or Community Edition) and/or Atlas**
  • **Proficiency in Amazon Web Services, Azure, or GCP, including DBaaS (RDS / Azure SQL) and IaaS (EC2/Azure VMs)**
  • **Fundamental networking skills encompassing routing, ports, and firewall principles**
  • **Knowledge of system and software engineering/development methodologies**
  • **Experience in automation and scripting for deploying, configuring, and managing database services**
  • **Ability to professionally engage with clients, developers, and team members**
  • **Strong written and verbal communication abilities**
