The Opportunity

Nutanix is combining its industry-guiding software-defined storage technologies with open-source Cloud Native storage solutions(NDK) to build the best-in-breed data management service for stateful containerized applications. Nutanix announced the early access of Nutanix Data Services for Kubernetes (NDK), an advanced solution designed to enhance data management capabilities within Kubernetes environments. We are looking for a guide with a unique blend of People Management and Technical skills. As a Senior Engineering Manager for Nutanix Data Services for Kubernetes (NDK), you will guide a team of passionate engineers to drive the development and evolution of our cutting-edge Kubernetes data services solution. You will play a key role in shaping the future of our product, ensuring its seamless integration with Kubernetes platforms and enabling businesses to leverage advanced data management capabilities in their containerized environments. Engineering / R&D at Nutanix Nutanix Data Services for Kubernetes () simplifies and unifies the entire lifecycle management of business-critical applications by extending enterprise data services to containerized applications. For developers, NDK speeds time to value and reduces operational risk by introducing a cloud operating model. For business owners, NDK increases cost efficiency and simplifies the delivery of resilient infrastructure. NDK will work with most Kubernetes, including our preferred choice for enterprise full stack Kubernetes, Red Hat OpenShift. NDK extends Nutanix and Red Hat joint engineering and provides a seamless support experience. The NDK is one of the new product offerings from Nutanix. We are working on a v1 product that is installed within the kubernetes environment. It uses various features made available by Nutanix Infrastructure, such as storage, disaster recovery, and enables them for containers within the Kubernetes environment. NDK is expected to operate in large customer environments spanning 100s Kubernetes clusters with each having 1000s containers. Scale, reliability, and performance are the top priorities during a disaster for customers. The product should adhere to strict RTO and RPO requirements from the enterprise customers. Your Role

Technical Leadership:Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of skilled engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and innovation.Provide guidance on Kubernetes, data management, and related technologies, ensuring the team's technical proficiency.

Product Development:Collaborate with Product Managers and Architects to define the NDK roadmap and guide the team in its execution.Oversee the end-to-end development lifecycle, from design and implementation to testing and release, ensuring high-quality, scalable, and reliable software.

Kubernetes Expertise:Demonstrate deep knowledge of Kubernetes architecture, networking, and storage concepts, ensuring the seamless integration of NDK with various Kubernetes platforms.Stay abreast of Kubernetes ecosystem developments, industry trends, and best practices, driving continuous improvement within the team.

Cross-functional Collaboration:Work with the Nutanix Global (mainly India and USA) engineering and multi-functional teamsWork closely with cross-functional teams, including Product Management, DevOps, and Customer Support, to align product development with customer needs and market demands.Foster collaboration and effective communication across teams, promoting a cohesive and unified approach to product development.

Quality Assurance:Uphold rigorous standards of software quality, guide the team in implementing robust testing practices, code reviews, and performance optimizations.Ensure NDK meets high reliability, availability, and performance standards, meeting or exceeding customer expectations.

What You Will Bring

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

Extensive experience (typically 10+ years) in software engineering, focusing on distributed systems. Experience with Kubernetes, containerization, and data services is a strong plus.

Proven guide experience, managing engineering teams and delivering successful software products.

Experience guiding a team of 15–20 engineers.

Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts clearly and effectively.

Experience with agile methodologies, project management tools, and version control systems.

Experience working with applications within hyperscalers, including AWS, Azure or GCP.

Good to have

Working knowledge of Data Protection technologies like Disaster Recovery and Backup.

Experience developing software for containerized platforms like Kubernetes.

Good understanding of Kubernetes Custom Resource and controller development.

About the Team Meet Chandan -

I joined Nutanix in 2019 to guide the AHV India team. The team grew from a few engineers to a team of 40+ with multiple engineering leaders.

Currently, I guide the charter for AHV India compute team(Control Plane, Scheduler, Live Migrations) and the NDK team in the US.

18+ Years of experience building and shipping products with Nutanix, Microsoft, and my own startup.
