    Context:

    India has climbed to the 40th rank on the 2022 Global Innovation Index (a leap of 41 places in seven years) and has the third-largest startup ecosystem in the world. HUL's external reach-out program spans Unilever Ventures (Financial investments in strategic early-stage companies), M&A (mature ventures with a reasonably high turnover), and individual agreements (specific service linked). However, we need to have a bigger structural play to have always-on access to innovation and disruptive trends, build resilience and strategic moats with HUL investing early, create new revenue and profit-generating opportunities, and leverage the capabilities of established players for value creation.

    HUL Foundry, through the creation of a local team augmented with a global foundry partnership, will have the capability for a formalized start-up ecosystem collaboration function, to help drive additional revenue and cost-saving opportunities in the South Asia region. This function fills a gap in the current organization, bringing the skillset to manage the intricate process of creating value with start-ups in Sustainability, Digital, GTM, and Product Process Innovation.

    Role Profile: As part of the foundry setup, the manager will be responsible for leading organizational-wide reach programs for the Foundry set up in India. They will be accountable for identifying the right business opportunities for local markets, scanning global solutions, and working together to identify the right financial partnering model.

    The person will be responsible for populating the partnerships funnel with a reach-out and reach-in approach. We need to build a brand around HUL foundry to attract startups and create a model for partnering. In parallel, we need to expand our reach out into the external community through accelerators, industry body tie-ups, and direct engagements.

    Key Accountabilities:

  • Identification of partnership avenues, areas of priority, and areas of opportunity
  • Create a reach-out program to build the HUL foundry brand as well as a scan of the external ecosystem to target key partners
  • Work together with finance and legal teams to deploy key projects/programs agreed as a part of the above strategy.
  • Lead the innovation and exploration of new partners to drive the next frontier in business use.
  • Experience, Skills Required

    The person should bring a well-rounded experience across business and functional verticals. Working in a start-up ecosystem is a strong advantage. They should understand the FMCG landscape, and the marketing ecosystem, and have an appreciation of the external landscape.
