Description
Position Summary:
The Design Thinking Facilitator plays a pivotal role in fostering innovation, creativity, and problem-solving skills among students within the Primary Years Programme (PYP) and Middle Years Programme (MYP) frameworks. This position involves designing and facilitating design thinking workshops, projects, and experiences that empower students to tackle real-world challenges, explore interdisciplinary connections, and develop a mindset of empathy, curiosity, and resilience.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Develop and implement a comprehensive design thinking curriculum that aligns with the IB PYP and MYP frameworks, integrating design thinking principles, processes, and mindsets into the school's inquiry-based approach to learning.
2. Design and facilitate design thinking workshops, activities, and projects for students across different grade levels, fostering creativity, collaboration, critical thinking, and communication skills.
3. Collaborate with classroom teachers and subject specialists to integrate design thinking concepts and methodologies into interdisciplinary units of inquiry, connecting with various subject areas and global contexts.
4. Empower students to identify and define real-world problems, conduct research, generate innovative ideas, and prototype solutions using a human-centered design approach.
5. Provide guidance and support to students as they navigate the design thinking process, including empathizing with users, defining problems, ideating solutions, prototyping designs, and testing iterations.
6. Foster a culture of creativity, experimentation, and risk-taking within the school community, encouraging students to embrace failure as an opportunity for learning and growth.
7. Incorporate digital tools, technologies, and maker resources into design thinking experiences, enabling students to leverage technology for innovation and rapid prototyping.
8. Collaborate with external partners, industry experts, and community organizations to provide authentic design challenges, mentorship opportunities, and real-world contexts for student projects.
9. Assess students' design thinking skills, processes, and outcomes using a variety of formative and summative assessment methods, providing constructive feedback and reflection opportunities.
10. Engage in ongoing professional development and collaborative learning opportunities to enhance expertise in design thinking, interdisciplinary teaching, and IB pedagogy.
11. Uphold the mission, values, and policies of the school, and serve as a positive role model for students, demonstrating a passion for innovation, creativity, and lifelong learning.
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Education, Design, Engineering, or related field; master's degree preferred.
2. Previous experience facilitating design thinking workshops or projects, preferably in an IB or international school setting.
3. Strong understanding of design thinking principles, processes, and methodologies, and their application in educational contexts.
4. Knowledge of the IB PYP and MYP frameworks and approaches to inquiry-based learning, interdisciplinary teaching, and international-mindedness.
5. Excellent communication, collaboration, and facilitation skills, with the ability to inspire and empower students to think creatively and solve complex problems.
6. Proficiency in using digital tools, maker resources, and technology-enhanced learning platforms to support design thinking experiences and projects.
7. Enthusiasm for interdisciplinary teaching and a willingness to collaborate with colleagues from different subject areas to integrate design thinking into the curriculum.
