SHE WAS ONCE MY FRIEND - by Devesh Bhatt

The Dark was friendly,

She was once my friend.

She kept the light out,

She let anyone in.

She shared my hurt,

And what I thought was sin.

Told me to unload,

She told me to shine again.


While I was dull,

She tried to teach me why.

World has a lot to see,

In a star lit sky.

But seeks the fallen,

And those about to die.

I had the time,

Till they have the supply.


I am a listener,

She saw a friend in me.

Told me of others,

The ones she goes to see.

Though I could help,

I saw opportunity.

To please the world,

I got my hands dirty.


I know more of her,

She knew less of me.

With all her friends,

She tried to disagree.

I showed the world,

What they wanted to see.

Just like the light,

I made her unworthy.


The dark is unfriendly,

She is not my friend.

I keep her inside,

I let the dull ones in.

I grow their hurt,

And I harvest their sin.

To supply the world,

I do it, again and again.

Thanks a lot for the food for thought. I am exploring the dark themes. It is like penning such thoughts so that i can be objective, functional and smiling during the day. Maybe it is a coping mechanism. Sounds nasty, using the misery to produce art and a happy day.
